Hyundai sales continue to rise, i30 best-seller in March

By Matt Brogan |

Hyundai has posted its best ever March result and its second best month yet since the Korean brand first went on sale in Australia back in 1986.

Selling 7797 units, Hyundai increased its total market share by 25.2 per cent compared to the same time last year and has achieved an overall sales increase of 58.9 per cent over the last 15 consecutive months.

Leading the brand’s strong sales, the Hyundai i30 range continues to prove a great success, leading its segment for the first time in March. Hyundai sold 3678 i30s in March to now hold a 16.4 per cent segment share.

“The team at Hyundai and the Hyundai Dealer network are delighted that more and more Australians are discovering the quality and value of today’s Hyundai range. Over 800,000 new Hyundais have now been delivered to Australian customers since the brand entered the market,” said Damien Meredith, Hyundai’s Director of Sales.

“Today, the i-series range of products continues to grow. We will be launching the new i45 mid-sized sedan next month followed by the i20 compact hatch in the middle of the year.”

Hyundai also continues to enjoy strong overseas sales with global figures up 35.7 per cent (March YTD 2010 vs. March YTD 2009). In America, Hyundai announced an all-time sales record for Q1 and for the month of March selling 47,002 vehicles, up 15.4 per cent on the same time last year.

The new Hyundai i45, sold as Sonata in North America, is already proving popular with retail-only sales figures showing the medium sedan is now the third best-selling vehicle in its segment.

The Hyundai i45 will go on sale in Australia next month.

Any car company that can do what Hyundai has done deserves to sell this well. Good advertising, hard working dealers, and Beaut product. This is the perfect business case.

  • TheFrugalOne

    The “Getz&i30 Motor Company” lol

This is a lesson what low price does, as long as its cheap they-will-buy.

Both the Getz and i30 are at best mid field runners, and all it confirms is that the punters WON’T pay just a few $k extra to buy superior, they just won’t! [I did though]

Its kept the prices of superior lower so we all win in the end.

If people were not choosing to pay more for product, then wouldnt the Tiida be the class leader? Apart from that, the 3 was still one of the top 5 selling vehicles last month, and Mazda certainly isn’t pricing that vehicle at bargain-basement prices. Punters will pay more for quality product, but there is a fine line between wants and needs.

Spoken by someone with absolutely no idea or common sense. The public have spoken and the you are calling them wrong lol. This is a far better car than the Corolla, Mazda 3, Impreza, Lancer SX4 or just about any other hatch you want to match it up against. 4.7l/100 km is just a bonus.

first they’re getting rid of the getz -its old stuff,
i find if funny to see ones like you that say things like “…cheap they will buy -i don’t though” like comments, you’re probably the type that comes out on ACA complaining about the gas/electricity prices jacking up

Has the i10 been cancelled for the Australian Market?

    • GoHyundai

i hope it comes out :P
the i20 is coming out though right?

  • Matt

The i30 is a very good car, but the 2.0 Petrol engine is gutless when accelerating.

    Otherwise, good on Hyundai!

I don’t know where ‘The Frugal One’ has been these past couple of years with unsupport comments above.
Rather, proof of the highest awards via all the Automobile Associations throughout Australia for the i30 in both 2008 & 2009. The i30 CRDi Hatch is returning fantastic economy and has a 5 star Safety rating with 6 airbags, to boot. I have had my new i30 (auto) with the Common Rail Diesel (Turbo Injection) CRDi for a month now and it is returning around 6 litres per 100kms. It performs like a ‘big six’ on the highway when overtaking. Great value and a very well made vehicle – absolutely happy with what I purchased !!
    Go figure !!

I agree. Hyundai done a very good job. Quality is very good, price is low, good resale value, 5 year warranty …etc. At work somebody bought the 1.6 CRDI and he is very happy. Hyundai i10 is cancelled but i20 is coming in July. Some cheap cars are just cheap without any quality or safety Hyundai is cheap but good!

      • GoHyundai

        i20 for july!? niceee

    • Stuart

The Frugal One sounds like a jealous buyer who paid more for less.

  • JooberGTi

Good to hear, hard working company pays off with a good car at a good price. lets hope they continue the trend and not slack off sitting on their laurels unlike some other motorco’s out there…

  • Leon

When does exactly the i20 comes to Australia? We have been waiting for ages! It has been on sale around the world since 2008.
