I had a 2008 2ltr GTI top spec. thought it was a great car until I bought a 2010 BMW 320 D Coupe. It completely blows it away.

HI HAD A VW GT GOLF SPORT 2008 IRISH OWNED BY ME—- LOVED THE CAR BROUGHT IT BRAND NEW BUT KEPT BREAKING DOWN IT HAS BEEN TOWED MORE TIMES — FUEL INJECTORS KEPT BLOWING. Osti it is certainly a good car but blow most V6s and V8s out of the water?
Come on mate – you either haven’t read recent stats or driven a new V6 or V8.
The Aurion, Maxima, Accord, Commodore and Falcon are all V6s around 7 seconds 0-100KM/H.
The GT is rated as 8.2 seconds. I won’t even go near the V8s – you get the idea.
I have the 125KW Passat which is only marginally slower (0.3 Secs) that your Golf. Yes it has good in gear acceleration, but I think you’ve over talked this car.
In fact, most new 1.6L petrol cars will beat it up to 30KM/H. The DSG with the turbo lag from standstill it terrible.

Hi all I have a MY09 TDI GT Sport just over 40000 kMs. One word Beautiful. No Brilliant, it only gets better with age just like a fine wine. If you have thought that they were built in South Africa so they must be flawed then please let me correct you they are not. I will never ever change from VW ever. The 125 kW Diesel GT sport engine is one to embarass most V6 and V8 varients to 100 kMp/h as seen in real life tests, I dare you to try. This vehicle will blow them out of the water. Anyway test drive one and see for your self, and no im not on the VW payroll.

Awesome, Awesome, awesome. Test drove a GT Sport diesel and was blown away (literally). Had to have it. Not a perfect car but brilliant, cannot wait for the delivery. Performance, economy and did I mention performance, and from a oiler.

All valid points, but tell me a car you can trash the be-jesus out of and return 6L/100 average day in and out? Or have XR6/SV6 straight line traffic light performance, in manual form, and get 850 plus kms out of a 55L tank?

Hard to get all these aspects in one car, and coming from a BA GT, I find this every bit as fun to drive. You’d need a serious car to catch one of these up a windy hilly road, my favourite place to take my “weezy diesel”.

Dynoed at 113kw and 357nm at the wheels dead stock, Mercury motorsport, Brisbane.

Highly recommended!

The price for this GT is quite high.

It can be compared with a Mazda 6, but I think Mazda is more sportive car.

i own a rather warm 98 wrx… my best mate has a collection of extremely worked gtr skylines… he has just taken the diesel golf for a spin and WILL purchase it whilst awaiting delivery of the r35 gtr… as my rex continues to get warmer, so too does my heart towards the golf
