Mazda MX-5 clubs set to celebrate 20th Anniversary

It seems like only yesterday that Mazda revealed its sporty little roadster to the crowds of Chicago's International Motor Show, and 20 years on, the popular two-seater is still drawing an enthusiastic audience.

Over 130 of Australia's most passionate Mazda MX-5 owners will gather with their cars in McLaren Vale, South Australia this Easter weekend to celebrate the iconic car's 20th anniversary.

The ninth national meeting of MX-5 enthusiasts sees club members gather from all over Australia for the four-day biennial event, which will this year be held from April 2 - 6.

A range of social activities will include a fund-raising auction and a convoy drive through nearby wine districts and southern beaches. A concours d'elegance will be held on the Saturday morning with members of the public welcome to attend. A hillclimb event on the Sunday morning also attracts a large spectator following.

More than 860,000 examples of the affordable Mazda MX-5 have been sold across the globe since 1989 with its traditional front-engine, rear-drive layout -- and near 50:50 weight distribution -- a favoured recipe among those with a passion for driving.

The Mazda MX-5 NatMeet is supported by Mazda Australia and the City of Onkaparinga. More information can be found at www.mx5.com.au/natmeet2010
