2010 Nissan Frontier, Xterra and Pathfinder recalled

Nissan has announced a recall of 4,038 cars including the Frontier, Xterra and Pathfinder. There is a potentially loose fastener which secures the front passenger airbag and the steering column. Both a unique problem but they both come from the torque settings being incorrect during manufacture.

The models affected are the 2010 Frontiers, Xterras and Pathfinders built between Februrary 22 and March 13, these cars may have fasteners that need tightning.

“The fasteners securing the passenger front air bag module, and also the fasteners securing the steering shaft positioning bracket may not have been tightened to the proper torque specification,” said NHTSA.

The NHTSA said the problems which could occur as a result of the loose fasteners are a possible loss of steering or the airbag not functioning properly.

“In the event of a crash, the passenger front air bag deployment trajectory might be affected. The fasteners could possibly come out of the steering column positioning bracket increasing the risk of a crash, ” explained NHTSA.

Nissan will be inspecting all vehicles affected to replace or tighten the loose fasteners.
