Melbourne storm damaged vehicles going to auction

By George Skentzos |

The severe weather which hit Melbourne earlier this month left a $400 million trail of destruction, although every cloud has a silver lining with dozens of damaged cars to be sent to the auction block.

Pickles Auctions Sunshine is holding a Hail Affected Auction on behalf of a major car dealership with thousands of new late model cars to be sold – most well under their sticker price.

With some describing the storm as the most costly Australian natural disaster in 50 years, it will be a while before an opportunity like this one comes around again.

“Pickles have thousands of vehicles to sell as a result of the storms. In this particular auction, NONE of the vehicles are on any written off vehicle register and the vast majority have the manufacturer’s warranty included (excluding paint and panel)”, says Mark. “There has never been a better opportunity to buy.”

Potential interstate buyers can also get involved by bidding online, although Pickles does encourage an inspection before bidding to make sure you know what kind of condition the car is in.

The Hail Affected Vehicle Auction will take place at 3.00pm on Tuesday, 30 March at 41-45 McIntyre Road Sunshine, VIC.

Or a parent who buys a car for there 18 year old son knowing it will get nicks in it anyways, good to learn in. I got one on the road a 2000 model 2 years ago for $1700 on the road, fine with me to throw that sort of money away for a new P plater, my son loves the car.

coming from south east queensland, we see our fair share of storms and hail. these cars were smashed beyond reccognition, the saving of a few thousand squid would equal the people like paintless dent removal prices soar. This was apparent with the costs of our SEVERE hail storm that made the WA’s hail storms look like cotton balls, although our storm wasnt as far stretched as WA’s…

I wouldnt touch a car thats had hail damage and I would never sell one to another poor unsuspecting customer… The future resale of a car with hail is absolutly horrible and it would be nothing more than unAustralian to sell a car to someone without telling whats happened to the car in its past…

So people should grow some balls and see what trying to resell a car with history like hail gets you, otherwise Karma will…

I bought three Yaris’s ( or should that be Yari?) for my business as delivery vehicles. I bought them from a Toyota dealer and saved approx 5-6K per vehicle. Making them cheaper than the Getz’s I normally buy. These cars get trashed within a few years, so for me, a good buy.

If anyone has seen the Mythbusters episode – a ‘golf-ball dimpled’ car is more fuel efficient than a smooth one… I wonder if hail dents have the same effect?

All those cars damaged by the Melbourne Storm – and we thought Brendon Fevola got up to mischief when he’s had a few too many.

  • =D

well i dont think its so bad getting a hail damaged car as it is only cosmetic damage and its nothing my hubby cant fix hes a panel beater, so i guess that if you know someone in the industry then i guess that you win if they are willing to fix it for you cheaper.so im getting a new car next week just because that they are going so cheap and i think that it is a great opportunity.

Pickle auctions the most unfriendliest, rudest and full of deception! Bought a vehicle, stated on the catalogue odometer 31K, day of delivery noted 51k. Deliberate deception. Apparently the catalogue is a guide only except when you go on the site and ask for keys, they are refused. The managers on the site almost sound illiterate! Taking the matter up but BEAWARE!

  • C7dermatome

It depends what you are getting, if it’s a hilux who cares about a few dings, if it’s a HSV limited edition that’s a different story!. Thanks for all the comments, it’s good to hear from people who have experience here
