This costs waaaaaay too much. Over $40k on the road. Fair dinkum, have fun selling this to the 25 diehards.

    • G

Can get a Golf GTi for that money.

      • asdf

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. how can you compare this to a pathetic Golf GTI. This car would give the R32 a run for its money (and the clio v6 would rape the R32 but thats another story)

    • PJK

it says on the roadtest “from $36490″.

  • 908

great power… if you dont mind driving on the redline all the time.

    • My Cars Called T-Rex

Whats wrong with that,Drivig a high reving 4 pot on a twisty road has to be one of the best things a car enthusist can do.

  • Sumodog

Nice cars but reliability is not their stronger suit. Friend of mine drives Megane RS and it spending most of the time in the workshop. When it goes it is a great drive though.

  • Innova

Bye bye Renault – budget car brand with premium price.

    • PJK

I’ve heard that when Geely starts importing from China they’ll be looking at cars from about 12K driveaway. Maybe one of these would be more in your price bracket?? You get what you pay for…

  • Neo Utopia

I agree this car is way over priced , in this country. In the UK they are however reasonably priced and are highly respected for their fun drivability. It’s a shame, all that money for such a small car which in this country would be regarded as a girl’s car, Australia has a lot of growing up to do in regards to this.

    • Nightshifter

You have no idea what overpriced mean. Look at Lotus Elise RRP price here and compare it with what it is in UK. You will see that the Clio is actually not that inflated.

  • Jav

If you test drive the GTI and then drive the Clio you would run back to Volkswagen and get the GTI. The Clio should be $30k!

    • PJK

how do you know this, when you haven’t driven it? You have motoring journalists who HAVE driven the car say it’s far and away the most capable thing in its class on the one hand, and on the other we have the totally uninformed comments of people who’s experience of hot hatches is either their 20yr old Suzuki Swift or their Playstaion. Grow up.

      • jav

Ok maybe I was a bit too harsh. I actually own a Clio 172 and love it to death as it is so much fun to drive. I also own 2 MKV gti’s one a standard DSG (the wife drives it)and the other the Pirelli edition and there is a big difference between the Renault and the VWs in particular the refinement, solidity, performance and especially quality. Now I know I haven’t driven the Clio 200 but from reading reviews on it you still have to ring its neck to get performance out of it. As for the GTI the performance is on tap instantly which makes for a much better road car than the Renault. For a track day car I don’t know which will be better. If Renault wants to make money out of the Clio they have to bring the price down as in general if you are not a Renault fanatic then the VW is more enticing to buyers. I have to admit though the Renault Clio 200 is probably the last car that we will see that has that raw charming character of being a great hot hatch!

This car is not for the Golf GTI buyers. It is not about having a car that does all things for all people. It is focused on giving keen drivers the best drivers car they can get their hands on this side of a Lotus Elise.
The Clio 200 Cup was selected in Britains Performance Car magazine Top 5 Performance cars of the year along with a Lotus Evora, Noble M600, Audi R8 V10 & Lamborghini Murcielago LP670. Only one of these cost under $150,000 in Aus.
BTY no, the Golf GTI did not get anywhere near the top 5.
If you want creature comforts, buy the Golf. If you want to drive & do not have $150,000 get a Clio !

  • mcl334

Just looked how much dealers asking for these Clio,s $43-$44k you got be kidding!!

A full fat Megane with cup pack is 26,000 pounds or A$43-$44k in the UK.

Dream on Renault your be lucky if you sell Two!!

  • jav

The Clio 200 is approx. 16000 pounds in the UK which roughly equates to about $26000 AUD. Surely it doesn’t cost $14000 to transport it to Australia.
    WTF Renault?

  • Vincent

It doesnt cost the $14000 to transport it to Australia.
but Aussie Gov took big share on that as tax.
