2018 Peugeot 508 leaked

Concept-car looks for mid-sized sedan

The next-generation Peugeot 508 has been leaked in the European press this week, giving us an early look at the sedan ahead of its anticipated reveal at the Geneva motor show.

Posted on Poland's Namasce, the set of images show a lower, wider, more aggressive-looking sedan – no wagon to be seen at this point – looking a little like the 2014 Exalt and 2017 Instinct concepts.

Up front there are eye-catching LED daytime-running light stripes resembling claws – taken straight from the Instinct show car – while the slim headlights and front grille bring the 508 in line with the company's latest models like the 3008 and 5008.

The slinky coupe-like roofline extends into a far more athletic-looking rump, which features a subtle lip spoiler on the boot, three-claw LED tail-lights, and a black strip that runs the width of the rear – another feature seen on recent models like the 3008 and 5008.

Adding to the more athletic look are the dual chrome exhaust pipes protruding from the diffuser-like lower bumper treatment on the GT variant pictured, as do the large turbine-shaped alloy wheels filling the arches, likely to be 19- or 20-inches in diameter.

Inside, the 508 has been completely redesigned, doing away with the button-heavy design of the current model and swapping in a super-luxe interpretation of the company's i-Cockpit cabin layout design.

There's a large driver-oriented central touchscreen, a fully-digital instrument cluster, a futuristic two-spoke steering wheel, and a modern gear-selector wand.

Blue LED strips span the dashboard, outline the cupholders and illuminate the footwells, while swathes of leather and wood are scattered throughout the cabin, again adding to that upmarket vibe.

In terms of powertrains, Namasce claims the new 508 will be available with a range of small-capacity turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, including 1.2-litre and 1.6-litre petrol units and 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre oilers.

Additionally, a hybrid version is said to be on the way, with a combined power output of around 300 horsepower (224kW), though all of these claims are yet to be confirmed.
