2010 BMW Z4 GT3 racer unveiled

BMW has unveiled the race bred version of its BMW Z4 Roadster, destined to arrive in the hands of private teams which will use them in various motorsport competitions around the globe.

The BMW Z4 GT3 racer replaces the standard six-cylinder engine for a 4.0-litre V8 engine with a lot more grunt, similar to the one found in the BMW M3 GT2 racer.

The 357kW or so available to the driver is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox with a "Quick Shift" function.

Complimenting the beefed up power plant is a raft of mechanical upgrades including a roll cage, aggressive front and rear spoilers, and numerous panels finished in light weight carbon fibre reinforced plastics.

This has helped to shed the overall weight of the car to just 1,200kg, although this hasn't helped the price which stands at over $400,000.
