BMW M3 sedan could be dropped by 2014

The four-door version of the M3 has come and gone a few times in the model's 20 year history, and if a new report from Automobile is anything to go by, it seems the next-generation model will again be sans sedan.

Based on BMW's F30 architecture, the new M3 range will, according to the report, likely include coupe and convertible versions, as well as new Speedster variant featuring a lowered windscreen and folding canvas roof.

The news comes in addition to an earlier announcement that BMW will ditch the V8 engine found under the bonnet of its current model in favour of a forced-induction six-cylinder unit. An output figure of 335kW has been rumoured.

The next-generation M3 is due to go on sale in late 2013 as an MY14 model.
