By Alborz Fallah |

The Italian’s latest weapon, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta now has an official video of its own:

To give you a brief overview of the car’s engines,  two petrol engines will be available to the tune of 90kW 1.4TB and 127kW 1.4TB MultiAir. If diesel is your flavour  a 78kW 1.6 JTDM and 127kW 2.0 JTDM will be offered.

Those going for more performance can pick the top of the range Alfa Romeo Giulietta which will be powered by a 175kW engine. More information below:

Actually I think you will find that the car would at least make it to Australian shores before is rusts. Solara? Does it only have AM radio?

  • Tom

    That’s hot!

  • Raf

So Alfa are continuing the policy they have with the Brera of selling a pretty but brutally underpowered version for people who just like the looks, and then an actual sports car for a ton more money?

  • Shak

Very, very appealing car from Alfa. Their current designs and engines are very interesting indeed.

  • Matt

    That looks fantastic!

RAF – I think you will find that ALFA are no different to other European makers whom have their “bread and butter” version and a “go fast” version. Its just that ALFA got lumbered with a heavy chasiss on their most recent 159/Brera models as a result of a joint development tie up with SAAB and GM from 5 years ago. Anyway, I do see where you are coming from though. For a car manufacturer whom trades on a sporty image there is no HALO model and none of their existing models are anywhere near their competitors in outright performance terms. Though, this is not what they are about at the moment.

Alfa are about to launch some very impressive car techonology on a lighter chassis. Their multi air engines are truly remarkable. So much power/torque/economy that they will be somewhere near the top of the table again. Hence, they should be able to finally appease both performance car buyers through their cloverleaf version (targeting GOLF GTI buyers for example) and more “bread and butter” buyers that want something economical, practical and a little bit different without the need for speed or money. Reviews out of Europe where they use the mulit air engines, dual clutch gearboxes etc that will be out on this model have been for th efirst time very favourable. Lets see if it translates well here…..

No Halo Model? What is the 8C then?

Every new car they are releasing is based off this car with their design. Take a look at the MiTo and this car. They have the same design cues.

Its a shame that this car will probally be priced well above the equivilant Golf/A3/1 Series

It looks awesome, and I have read that it looks way better in the flesh too.

Pauly – ahhhhhh the 8c competezione! My favourite ALFA and car of all time! Utterly gorgeous and a sound to die for. However calling the 8c a Halo car for Alfa might be stretching it a little. Halo in spirit, but with only 500 made and at a price that was MORE expensive than the ferrari 430 and with a ferrari sourced engine and maserati chassis/drivetrain etc, the only “Alfa” thing about the 8C is the body. The everyday affluent customer with $100k to spend wouldnt have a “coooeee’s” chance to secure one of these cars. You had to be invited to purchase one anyway!
I am talking about performance orientated cars within Alfa’s existing line up. That is, there is no GTA/Cloverleaf competitior to take on VW’s “Gti” or “R” lineup or Audis “S” line up or BMW “M” lineup.
The biggest problem for the Fiat group right now is the massive gap between Alfa/Lancia whom are not perceived as very competitive (rightly or wrongly) and the next step up into Maserati. Say you are a succesful buisnesman coming out of a v6 159 and have $70k to $150k to spend and want a performance orientated Italian car. What are you going to buy? Unless you are happy with a 2nd hand 5 year old maserati there is nothing. You have to be spending $300k to get into a very elite car. Tahts a very big gap and for most people it is too much and so will automatically default into a HSV, AMG, M etc etc. The line up does not include the cloverleaf or GTA model that once used to elevate their cars up the performance chart!! Anyway, I live in hope that the Chrysler tie up will allow these more performacne orientated models to come through and in the meantime “cloverleaf” models can be devloped to take on the Gti’s and mini cooper S of this world!

Great looking car, the GTA will be my next car.
Wonder how long it will take for the japanese to copy the front of it or even the rear lights…
