2019 Audi A1 snapped during winter testing

The 2019 Audi A1 has been spied during cold-weather testing, previewing a new face and bigger body for the littlest member of the four-ringed family.

When it lands, the car will likely ride on a slightly longer version of the Volkswagen Polo's platform, designed to deliver the extra legroom and luxury expected of an Audi.

Up front, the car appears to have slimmer headlamps, with what appear to be sequential indicators at the top of their cluster. The latest version of the Audi corporate face has been shrunken for service in the A1, flanked by air intakes on each side of the bumper.

At the rear, the shape of the taillights appears to be similar to those of the current car, albeit with more modern graphics to match the rest of the company range. This is Audi, after all, so don't expect a complete revolution.

The latest tech from bigger Audis will filter down to the A1 inside, which means an optional 12.3-inch digital instrument binnacle will likely feature.

Power is expected come from a range of three- and four-cylinder engines from the Volkswagen Group family, likely topped by a hot S1. The current lineup doesn't include an RS1, but don't completely rule out the possibility for the second-generation model range.

Don't, however, expect to see a three-door version of an A1, regardless of powertrain. Slow sales mean it's likely the four-door Sportback will carry the load alone when the car arrives in 2019.
