Isuzu Ute sales jumped by 10.4 per cent year-on-year in 2017, making it the brand’s ninth successive year of double-digit growth.
The company sold a total of 25,804 cars in 2017, up from 23,379 in 2016. The growth was largely driven by the MU-X, with 8087 examples finding a home last year, while the D-Max ute overtook the Nissan Navara in fifth place on the one-tonne sales charts.
Interestingly, the company has made Queensland a stronghold. While the MU-X is the sixth-best selling Large SUV under $70k nationwide, it trails only the Toyota Prado for that category in the Sunshine State, outselling the Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
“We are particularly proud of the growth of the D-MAX and MU-X in an extremely competitive market,” said Isuzu Ute Australia managing director, Hiro Kuramoto. “We are excited to see that our updated models have really hit the mark with our consumers.”
“Customer satisfaction and loyalty is the key to our ongoing success, with many happy owners now transitioning into a newer model as well as increasing numbers of new customers being referred,” he continued.
Having joined the market in October 2008, the company sold 3573 cars in 2009, 5108 in 2010, 6384 in 2011 and 7783 in 2012. Sales jumped to 10,212 in 2013 and then again to 16,674 in 2014, thanks largely to the introduction of the MU-X.
The growth has since slowed slightly, with 20,984 cars in 2015 and 23,379 in 2016 representing 25.8 and 11.4 per cent year-on-year improvements respectively.
This improvement is also illustrated by the dealer network, which has jumped from 52 in 2008 to 141 in 2017.
