Porsche tows its way to a new Nurburgring record

A Panamera Sport Turismo towing a classic Porsche Junior 108 tractor has lapped the legendary North Loop in 12:06, topping out at 180 km/h in the process.

The race to set Nurburgring records reached fever pitch this year, with a glut of attempts (successful or otherwise) from manufacturers desperate to prove their sports car mettle. Porsche was among the crowd of new record holders, but its latest attempt makes the GT2 RS lap look a bit, well, conventional.

That isn't exactly quick when compared to some of the other times set around the track this year. The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 lapped in just 7:21.23 for a new production sedan record, while Mercedes-AMG laid down a 7:45.19 marker in the E63 S Estate.

And let's not forget, Porsche itself toppled the Lamborghini Huracan Performante with the GT2 RS, storming into the record books with a 6:47.3 lap.

But none of those cars had a diesel tractor hanging off their back, so we'll cut Porsche a bit of slack.

Will the trailer record kickstart a new run of record attempts at the Nurburgring? Probably not, although the idea of a Huracan towing an LM002 is an enticing one. Make it happen, Lamborghini.
