Hence why you are issued a firearms licence, not a weapons licence. Guns being used to shoot a target at a range are no more of a weapon then a knife being used to eat dinner with. The moment someone runs a red light, drink drives, runs a stop sign, etc, that car becomes a weapon, as it is no longer being operated in a responsible manner and is being operated in a manner which is likely to cause death or serious injury. If someone deliberately runs a red light, ect, they know that their actions are likely to cause death or serious injury, therefore through their intent to run the red light, they intend to kill or seriously injure someone and in doing so turn the car into a weapon. Anything used in a manner which can cause death or injury to someone is a weapon, not just a gun.
