Skoda Australia shares new model plans out to 2021

Skoda Australia has detailed its product roadmap for the coming years, confirming a range-topping Kodiaq Sportline, the Karoq medium SUV, a heavily-updated Fabia and a brand new Rapid will all arrive inside two years.

The Czech brand has been very candid about its plans for our market out to 2020, with other additions to include a facelifted Superb, a new Octavia, and an all-new small SUV that'll be a twin to either the VW T-Roc or T-Cross.

Another potential addition is the Kodiaq RS, currently the subject of intense negotiations between Skoda Australia and its parent company in Europe. This iteration is said to be powered by the Volkswagen Group's 176kW/500Nm 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel.

What's interesting, though, is that this engine isn't offered in Australian examples of the Tiguan and Passat as it isn't tuned for Australia's 'hot climate'. Hence the slight uncertainty.

When nestled under the bonnet of the Tiguan, the bi-turbo diesel propels the SUV from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds, so expect the heavier Kodiaq to be marginally slower than that.

Additionally, the sporty-looking Kodiaq Sportline (above) mentioned earlier should arrive locally in April 2018, which offers athletic looks with a little less go than the forthcoming RS version for those who don't need the extra oomph.

The new Karoq (above) is also slated for a June launch next year, which will debut the 12.3-inch Active Info digital driver's display for the Skoda brand, and compete in the burgeoning medium SUV segment alongside the related Volkswagen Tiguan. In 2019 a Sportline version will join the local range too.

From 2020 onwards, Skoda's local arm says it's planning to roll out a range of electric vehicles, which should include the production version of the Vision E coupe-crossover concept show this year at the Shanghai motor show.
