2018 BMW X3 scores five-stars ANCAP safety rating

The 2018 BMW X3 has been awarded a five-star rating from independent crash-test authority ANCAP.

With a total score of 35.41 out of 38 for adult occupant protection, the X3 returned a perfect score in the side-impact test, and 7.3 out of 8 for the pole test.

The car also scored well in child occupant protection testing, with a score of 84 per cent, and offers good pedestrian protection (70 per cent) too.

"The X3 is also well-specified with active safety technologies offering a slightly higher standard safety specification than the X3 offered in Europe," said James Goodwin, ANCAP's CEO.

"Lane departure warning and intelligent speed assistance systems are offered as standard inclusions on Australian and New Zealand models," he continued. "It is encouraging to see standard safety inclusions being prioritised for our market."

At the moment, the rating only applies to the entry-level xDrive20d variant.
