Porsche 918 Spyder production one step closer to reality

The future of the Porsche 918 Spyder, as seen at this year's Geneva Motor Show, is one step closer to reality with Porsche boss, Mr Michael Macht, telling UK magazine Autocar that there is no one inside the company that does not want to build the supercar.

Going from sketch to showcar in less than five months, the Porsche 918 uses a combination of a (373kW) petrol V8 engine and two electric motors for a combined output of 535kW. Porsche says the 918 could be quicker than the Carrera GT the Nordschleife.

Although Stuttgart has yet to formally OK the project, Mr Macht said the positive reaction to the 918 at Geneva had already swayed opinion within the firm.

"There is no one inside Porsche who doesn't want to build the 918," said Mr Macht.

"The response has been marvellous; we will ask buyers to sign letters of intent,

"The 918 Spyder provides the answer to whether there can be high-performance cars in the future,

"Many have said they are finished. This car shows they are not."

It is rumoured that upon receiving the green light, the Porsche 918 could go on sale within five years. In the mean time, we'll just have to enjoy some gorgeous pics.
