Seems like it’s that time of the year again for special editions, first it was the Mitsubishi Lancer ACTiV, and today the Japanese giant has revealed details of a Mitsubishi Outlander RX special edition model.

The Outlander RX is built on the same specifications as the 2010MY LS variant but comes packed with a load of extra features inside and out. From the outside a set of 18 inch seven-spoke alloy wheels give the car a more prominent stance while redesigned front bumper and fog lights along with unique side and rear air dams finish off its new style.

For those paying attention to the minor details you’ll also notice silver painted exterior door handles, a chrome exhaust tip and privacy glass.

Sit inside the new Outlander RX and you’ll notice unique leather and sports mesh seat trim and to keep the silver theme going there is also silver painted floor console panels and chrome interior door handles. The special edition also gains Bluetooth phone system and smart key entry.

Only 500 of the Mitsubishi Outlander RXs coming to Australia and they will be available in Black Mica, Cool Silver and if you want it even more unique you can pick White Pearl which is exclusive to the RX.

The standard features of the range include the 2.4L MIVEC engine, with CVT auto transmission (4wd System), Dual SRS airbags, ABS Brakes with EBD, Active Stability Control, Active Traction Control and Hill Start Control.

The Mitsubishi Outlander RX will retail for $38,475.00 and come with a 5 year / 130,000km, 10 year/160,000km non-transferrable drive-train warranty and 5 year/130,000 roadside assist as standard.

The front is actually quiet good looking. All up i think its a very good package for those who are in the market for a mid sized SUV.

Yes it does look better than the normal model, but I wonder if Mitsu change the rear end slightly. It’s a common and unfortunate case when carmakes put out a limited edition with a big, aggressive bodykit on the front, and leave the back as it is. I notice that the Outlander has had quite a few limited editions with styling updates.

Are those moulded square things on top of the fog lights supposed to be LED daytime running lights in another model?!

I saw one of these at the local dealer in silver. Made me look twice, very different front end.

CVT has poor durability. Google “CVT reliability” and you will see ~

Computer hard disks have MTBF (mean time between failure) specification of 1,000,000 hours. If we live in a perfect world, the hard disks would last 1,000,000 hours or 41,667 days or 114 years. But the truth is hard disk crashes are too common.

The front already looked quite sharp when it was exactly the same as the lancer’s. I think the new front shape is just as good. Wish it has a diesel, then it would be good competition with the ix35 and the upcoming sportage.

Have to disagree with most, I think the new front looks ugly. The original pre-Lancer face was still the best, all of these special editions are way to ‘riced up’ for my liking.

I’m driving one… it looks totally cool… in fact I prefer the front bigger to the Lancer…

      but hey…looks are subjective…otherwise we’d be fighting for the same woman…LOL…. :D

the rest of the post is right…the back should be re-designed….it’s aged…
and the interior….should be like Tiguan….

otherwise, it’s pretty good car to drive…steering and handling is good, but not too good compared to the old forester.

For a few extra bucks you can get the VR model, which I have, which has a MUCH better engine, very revvy and smooth, a proper gearbox rather then the CVT which is fine in theory but a bit dissapointing in practice, and a waaaaaaaay better AWD system which really does work very well. You can throw it into a tight corner in the wet, slam the throttle at the apex and the car just hauls out the other side, no wheelspin, just grips and goes. It’s no sportscar don’t get me wrong, but for a soft roader it is very good.

Interior is comfortable and spacious, but yeah it would be nice if it was put together as well as the Tiguan, but the little VW is just tooo little which is why we ruled it out

This is the model for the Japanese Domestic Market. I love the front end.
I am having a second thought buying a Grandis now. Maybe I should buy this one instead. It has to be White Pearl. By the way, I own a 2005 Outlander LS.

That’s one of the best, mean looking SUVs around, I wish I haven’t bought my Xtrail. I hope they will release this model for the V6 as well, the CVT is not really reliable at all, I have my Xtrail CVT’s transmission replaced twice already, and the car has only done 20000km,and in one year of ownership.

The Outlander 2.4 auto uses the same Jatco JF011E CVT transmission as the Nissan X-Trail, Maxima 2.5, Dodge Caliber, Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot.

Step backwards, looks very cheap and plasticky and ‘ricer’. The ‘fog light’ cluster is ridiculous.

Anyone else hear the news. Mitsubishi’s Ralliart subsidiary has closed it’s doors in Japan. The products will still come to us but the company has closed down.
