Renault, Lada confirm F1 Team sponsors partnership

By Matt Brogan |

The Renault F1 Team has today confirmed a cooperative sponsorship arrangement with Lada, Russia’s leading car manufacturer, that will see branding feature on the chassis of the Renault F1 Team R30 race cars during the 2010 season.

Lada branding will also appear on the overalls and team uniform of 25-year-old Vitaly Petrov. Petrov will make history this year as Russia’s first ever F1 driver.

“We are proud to announce this new agreement, which marks another important step for the Renault F1 Team and Formula 1 in Russia,” commented Renault F1 Team Chairman Gerard Lopez.

“Through Mangrove Capital we have been actively investing in Russia over the last years,

“We know the country well, we have a high degree of appreciation for it and, as such, it is an honour for our F1 team to spearhead Russia’s entry into the sport and to carry the Lada brand at the highest level of world motorsport,

“We look forward to an exciting and successful season together.”

So, now we have a Ferrari powered BMW and a Renault/Lada…

Am I alone in thinking WTF?

  • Deej

So when does the Niva come back and more importantly the Samara back on Australian shores?

    • Baddass

When the Australian market decides it wants outdated (when new), unsafe, unreliable and ugly cars, and sometimes with vodka in their fuel tanks.

  • Andrew

So wait, one of the few manufacturers still in F1 is being sponsored by…another manufacturer? As you do I suppose.

a Lada F1 car!!! I don’t remember eating any mushrooms and it is not the first of April yet, so could it be for real? If so the motoring world has certainly gone surreal in 2010.

It would be like hearing Royal Enfield is having a go at the motorbike GP.

The only thing that would make the whole thing more surreal is if they win!

  • ABMPSV

I hope they win and why not. At least Lada is suporting a F1 team. Name a big Australian company which supported a F1 or MotoGP team like Lada. None! Alan Jones and Doohan had a support in Europe but not from Australia. Shame!

So thats the reason Petrov got a drive this year.

  • Shane

    Lada in F1?

now I have seen everything! it just goes to show what a joke this sport has become

    • ABMPSV

Yes Lada in F1! You would say the same for Holden???

      • Mike

You can’t compare the two example Lada’s collapse in Aust, I would love to see Holden taking it up to Ferrari

        • Shane

Holden cant even beat ford, how they going to beat ferrari?

        • ABMPSV

          ..with a pushrod engine..hahahahaha

      • Shane

definately, i put holden in the same league as Lada

    • The Original Tom

OMG, Lada is just a sponsor. No one expressed surprise that ING or West were “in F1″.

Prediction: Chinese and Indian car makers joining F1 soon. Fair enough, whoever has got the cash to burn gets to play.

Whats going on in our motoring world this year. Its only been two months and already the BigT has fallen from grace, GM is making money and some good product, and the Russians in F1. Somebody has been messing with the motoring water supply lately.
