New infotainment and more safety tech for British flagship

The 2018 Jaguar XJ range has been detailed for the Australian market this week, ahead of its arrival in the first quarter of 2018.

As reported in July, headlining changes to Jaguar's flagship model include the addition of new infotainment and driver assistance systems, along with a new performance variant - the XJR575.

Prices are up across the range, with the entry-level Premium Luxury trim level kicking off at $210,120 plus on-road costs, which is around $9000 more than the outgoing model. However, this has been offset by the inclusion of more equipment.

All versions of the XJ get Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) 10-inch InControl Touch Pro infotainment system as standard, as well as a 12.3-inch digital driver's display. The range also nabs the company's suite of driver assistance systems, which includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning with assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, along with adaptive cruise control with Queue Assist.

There's also full-LED headlights and tail-lights across the line-up, DAB+ digital radio, an automated parking assistant, 360-degree cameras along with a powered boot lid.

For the XJ Premium Luxury, there's both standard- and long-wheelbase bodies, offered with either 221kW 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel or a 250kW 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine.

Next in the range is the Portfolio, available solely in long-wheelbase with the supercharged petrol V6 from $235,565 plus ORCs. Additional equipment over the standard trim includes auto high beam assist, perforated soft grain leather seats with diamond quilting, 18-way power adjustment for the front seats including heating, cooling and massage functions, real leather trim on the upper interior fascia, and a wood/leather steering wheel.

Those wanting a sportier XJ can opt for the R-Sport, which asks for $236,295 before ORCs and is offered exclusively in a standard-wheelbase body. Equipment highlights include gloss black exterior highlights. Heated and cooled front sports seats - without massaging - an R-Sport steering wheel, and an ebony headliner.

Sitting atop the range are two very different takes on the V8 luxury limousine: the Autobiography, and the new XJR575.

With a price of $303,855 plus on-road costs, the XJ Autobiography is the flagship long-wheelbase variant, offered exclusively with the company's 375kW 5.0-litre supercharged V8. The Autobiography is the only variant in the line-up to get adaptive full-LED headlights as standard (a $930 option on other grades), while other highlights include perforated semi-aniline leather with diamond quilting, leather headlining, a digital TV tuner, and a rear entertainment system with dual 10.2-inch high-definition displays.

Finally, the XJR575 performance hero (pictured) is the most expensive variant on offer, starting at $306,475 before ORCs for the sole standard-wheelbase sports sedan. Headlining the specification sheet is an uprated 423kW version of the 5.0-litre supercharged V8, with other features including red brake calipers, a quad-pipe sports exhaust system, a carbon-fibre engine cover, bonnet louvres, sports seats with '575' badging, and real carbon-fibre interior trim.

As is common across luxury marques, the XJ range is available with a myriad of standalone extras and option packages.
