Proton Emas concept – Geneva 2010

The micro-sized Proton Emas, designed by Italdesign Giugiaro and engineered by Lotus, has made its global debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

With many of the details revealed prior to the premiere, much of the Motor Show attention has been directed towards the vehicles’ styling and ergonomics.

The Emas family includes a three- and five-door hatch as well as the beefier Country model, and Italdesign Giugiaro says the architecture has been designed to accommodate “an infinite number of variants” without compromising comfort and interior space.

The name itself means “gold” in Proton’s native Malay and doubles as an acronym for Eco Mobility Advanced Solutions.

While Proton is yet to announce any production plans for the Emas, the extensive collaboration effort of three automotive companies and the debut of a three-model range suggest the plug-in hybrid may be closer to showrooms than many other Geneva concepts.
