Gumpert Apollo S – Geneva 2010

German supercar manufacturer Gumpert has unveiled the 2010 Apollo S at the Geneva Motor Show with performance enhancements and right-hand drive availability among the key changes.

Improved cooling, new recirculation valves and optimised engine control have boosted power seven percent from 515kW to 551kW.

Rocker switches on the steering wheel mean that the six-speed TT40e transmission now shifts gear in no more than 40 milliseconds.

Style-wise, Gumpert’s latest effort is no less polarising than previous models, but its racing appeal is advanced by LED daytime running lights and a tweaked front and rear, with added flaps in the tail to ensure optimal downforce.

The 2010 Apollo S also scores an upgraded CD/DVD system and a central rear flashlight for motor racing, as well as a redesigned flap-controlled exhaust system which, according to Gumpert, produces an “unmistakeable earthy sound”.

The right-hand drive option is the most exciting announcement for Australia and, although there is no news about a local launch, hopefully it increases our chances of one day seeing an Apollo down under.
