2010 Dodge Journey adds Safety Equipment

By Matt Brogan |

The Dodge Journey has been updated for 2010 with a list of new standard features. Now with active head restraints, tinted sunscreen glass and leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls added to the whole range.

“The Dodge brand was one of the few brands to finish in the black last year. This year the brand will again play an important role with key models such as Nitro, Journey and the soon to be updated Caliber,” said Gerry Jenkins, Managing Director, Chrysler Australia

With its flexible interior added safety and sporty looks the Dodge Journey offers customers an alternative to the popular family hauling 4WD.

The Dodge Journey is offered with two engine choices, a 2.0-litre turbo diesel or a 2.7-litre V6 with a six speed automatic transmission. The standard engine is the V6 which is offered on both SXT and the higher specced  R/T, and produces 136 kW and 246 Nm of torque with a fuel consumption of 10.3 L/100km.

The 2.0-litre turbo diesel is only available on the R/T model with 103 kW of power and 310 Nm of torque and has a combined fuel consumption rating of 6.7 L/100km mated to a six speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

Safety equipment for the 2010 model includes ESC with traction control, Brake Assist and ABS. Active head restraints for the front seats as well as seat mounted air bags add to the front airbags and curtain air bags.

The options list include Media Centre with navigation, a 30 gigabyte hard drive with Voice Command, iPod Control and U connect Phone. The rear seat passengers can be entertained with a nine inch screen with wireless headphones.

I have spent the past 4 days driving around the south west of Arizona in one of these covering 850 miles of mostly country driving. They look good but that is about it. The V6 petrol engine is quiet when cruising but noisy and gutless when reved. The car I have is a rental that had done 7’900 miles so it is pretty well run in. It has rattles and squeeks in the doors, dash, rear cargo area, handles like a bowl of jelly, has a lot of wind around the windscreen, exterior mirrors, uncomfortably hard, flat and un-supportive seats, crap flow through ventilation that is noisy on anything except low setting and lots of dash reflection in the widscreen. The car is just plain rubbish and says a lot about why Chrysler went bankrupt. I can’t wait to get home and drive some good Aussie product. The absolute best I could coax out of it is 21.9MPG so its thirsty as well as crap to drive!

I bought the 2010 R/T 2.0ltr diesel and love it. I am a little disappointed that it doesnt come in 4WD in Australia though. They put a lot of thought into storage and practicality and while normally I would bag the hell out of American made products, I think they’re on a winner with this one.

We brought our Dodge Journey R/T new in 2010 and yes i’ll agree its no Mercededs Benz or BMW, but at a quarter of the price it does as much as we expected and does it well. Our vehicle was fully optioned up and on the road for under $43k. Just completed an 800klm drive and it never missed a beat and was more than adequate to keep up with the traffic, and averaged only 8.6l/100ks (highway driving) which im more than happy about. The vehicle is now 12 months old, id recommend any family to take a close look at the journey for its featrures aswell as cheaper running costs.
