Opel restructuring decision could still take some time

By Matt Brogan |

Opel CEO Mr Nick Reilly has told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag that the restructuring plan for GM’s European division could still take some time.

After a tough few months, Mr Reilly said GM will need time to convince all parties involved in the restructure that the current plan is the right one for Opel’s future, but that ultimately, GM will receive the support it needs to keep Opel moving forward.

Current plans indicate that Opel hopes to raise sales to 1.7 million units by 2015, an increase of some 500,000 units on last year’s figures.

  • Whatever

I hope Opel can make those targets and become more profitable. They are making some very nice cars currently, visually appealing, exciting and with much better fit and feel. Come to Australia Opel, then you will make more profit. Many people here rebadge their Opels from Holdens to Opels, so there is definately a following and an appreciation.

If Only Gm would let Holden sell these cars. The thing Holden keep complaining about is price, but they somehow managed to get the Astra pricing right, and if the whole line up is from Europe, people will have the image that Holden is moving up in quality, and then they can actually charge the european prices.

The new Opels look good but while GM continue to upset the unions in Europe about plant closures they will struggle to maintain sales. Holden cant bring in the Opel designs as this would kill the Cruze.
