2018 Audi RS4 Avant revealed: Here by April

331kW wagon sprints from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds

Audi has taken the wraps off the 2018 RS4 Avant at the Frankfurt motor show, revealing an all-new car capable of moving from standstill to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds.

Packing an engine co-developed with Porsche, the Audi RS4 Avant is powered by a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 331kW of power and 600Nm of torque.

Mated to an eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox that sends torque to all four wheels, the RS4 Avant is a return to an iconic entry-level performance wagon packing twin-turbocharged punch, instead of a naturally-aspirated V8 like the previous two generations of the nameplate.

Weighing in at 1790kg - 80kg less than the last RS4 Avant - this all-new model comes with the option of a sport differential for the rear and carbon-ceramic brakes. Standard sport suspension makes the RS4 Avant 7mm lower than the regular A4 with sport suspension, with an option to add RS sport suspension plus with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC), along with RS-specific dynamic steering.

The interior is just as impressive with hugging sports seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and plenty of performance-inspired highlights.

Externally, the RS4 is equally as sporty, with gaping inlets at the front and Audi's trademark RS oval dual-exhaust outlets at the rear, plus wheel arches that sit 30mm wider than a regular A4. Standard 19-inch alloy wheels can be swapped out for 20-inch rims, while the Audi exclusive Nogaro Blue colour harks back to the first-generation RS-branded wagon - the RS2.

Best of all, the claimed combined fuel economy figure is just 8.8 litres of fuel per 100km.

Pricing will start from 79,800 euros (AUD$119,000) in Europe, with first deliveries expected to start from early 2018. Australia is set to follow from around April. Pricing is yet to be announced for our market, but it's expected to be around the same mark as the previous-generation model - which kicked off at $151,010 plus on-road costs.

Audi Australia corporate communications manager, Shaun Cleary, said the brand is excited for the arrival of the all-new RS4 Avant.

"It's an iconic car for Australia and the brand in general. It delivers a sweet spot for customers and the RS is an appealing concept for Audi buyers in Australia," he said.

"We're excited about it, especially with the new engine and performance on offer."
