Mercedes-AMG Project One shows its caboose to the competition

Days before its global unveiling, and less than a week since its last appearance, a new view of the Mercedes-AMG Project One hypercar has been handed down from on high.

This latest shot offers a suitably grainy, reconnaissance-like glimpse of the car that will enter as AMG's response to the LaFerrari, Mclaren P1, Porsche 918… and the upcoming Aston Martin Valkyrie.

The skinny on AMG's Project One so far includes that it will draw on the company's F1 racing expertise, matching a 1.6-litre six-cylinder turbo petrol engine to four electric motors for a combined output beyond 1000 horsepower (745kW).

A mere 275 units of the new flagship will be built, with pricing to come in at around $2 million - or about the price of a two-bedroom apartment in Sydney.

The local arm of Mercedes-Benz has confirmed nine examples are allocated to Australia and New Zealand.
