Mercedes-Benz EQ A concept previewed

Mercedes-Benz has handed down a first shadowy preview of its coming Concept EQ A, to be revealed at this month's Frankfurt motor show.

The second concept in its new line of EQ-branded electric concepts - or third, if the new Smart Vision EQ concept counts - Merc's new EQ A is expected to preview a small next-generation hatch.

To now, Mercedes-Benz has so far revealed not only the Smart Vision EQ, but also the larger GLC-looking Generation EQ concept at last year's Paris motor show.

The EQ A was first reported in May, but today marks the first official confirmation of the German brand's intentions to reveal a third new EV concept in Frankfurt.

So far, the company has revealed only this single teaser image, although reports suggest the concept will be a small five-seat hatch built on its new MEA platform, with production to begin from sometime around 2019.

Further details are still to come, but driving range will be the main focus for onlookers - and a number in the neighbourhood of the Generation EQ's 500km claimed range is likely.

Watch for more to come in Frankfurt, which kicks off on September 14.
