2018 McLaren 720S: ‘Fux Fuchsia’ one-off revealed for Pebble Beach

Ever thought you'd like to own a ridiculously fast and powerful supercar, but held off for fear of not being able to get it in the exact colour you wanted? Yeah, I haven’t either. Regardless, McLaren has proven that just about anything is possible when it comes to customising a car to a buyer’s taste, revealing a unique version of its latest Super Series model, the 720S.

Turn down the contrast of your screen and say hello to the one-off ‘Fux Fuchsia’ 2018 McLaren 720S.

Revealed in time for this weekend’s 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California, the supercar was specifically commissioned for the team at McLaren Special Operations (MSO) by long-time car nut and US-based entrepreneur, Michael Fux.

And the eye-popping paint?

Dubbed ‘Fux Fuchsia’, the colour is not only one created to the individual specification of Fux, it was in fact originally created for the businessman by Rolls-Royce, and subsequently “redeveloped” by MSO.

And, given Fux also retains exclusive rights to using the hue on any other McLaren vehicle - if you like it, tough luck. You can’t have it.

Apart from draping the main body of the car, ‘Fux Fuchsia’ also appears on the lip of the car’s lightweight alloy wheels, and in the form of interior highlights breaking up the cabin’s sea of white-stitech MSO Bespoke white leather.

Completing the package are white-stitched white Alcantara floor mats, and carbon-fibre and Stealth grey elements.

Highlighting exactly what’s possible if you’ve got the money, McLaren Automotive global sales and marketing executive director, Jolyon Nash, explained that the service MSO provides is all about challenging the art of the possible to meet and then exceed customer demand and expectation.

“MSO provides McLaren owners with virtually limitless possibilities to tailor a car exactly to their needs and tastes,” Nash said.

“Unique paint colours and finishes, custom leather and stitching, and exotic materials are all available within a bespoke commission, while beyond this there are opportunities all the way up to complete vehicles designed to individual specification.”

For the record, Fux – a renowned car collector – has previously commissioned a McLaren Orange McLaren 12C, bespoke purple 12C Spider, and a bespoke green McLaren P1.

Oh yeah, as for cost? Well, if you have to ask, McLaren kindly states, “Due to the nature of an MSO Bespoke commission, financial details are not disclosed”. For context, though, a standard McLaren 720S is priced from $489,900 (before on-road costs) here in Australia.

Powered by a 527kW/770Nm twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, the rear-drive 720S claims 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0-200km/h in 7.8 seconds, and a top speed of 341km/h.
