Ordered my little GTI in Jan and is coming in September- all good things to those who wait. Definately not for inexperienced young male drivers, its very, very, quick- but is just so solid. My advice, make sure you have Aussie tyres, the European ones arent made for our roads. Have driven Audis' for years (which we know the only difference b/t them and VW's is the badge) so don't worry about the turbo copeng with our weather, nevr had an issue yet.
You also wont get a car of this size with this many safety features buy a long shot. Will cost you about 35k drive away with a couple extras (xennon lights, alarm etc.)
Fun car to drive, and great if your having a midlife crisis and cant afford a Porsche!

Another cheap little death trap for teenagers to get killed in. Stick to Falcons & Commodores kids, at least their size helps off-set the forces on impact.

I drove a Polo GTI at Mulgrave Volkswagon today. Very nice sales people. Overall I was blown away by:

1. The competitive price of the car;
2. The smoothness of the DSG gearbox;
3. Sound of the induction farts as the DSG did its thing..sound exactly like a F1 car changing gears and of course the Golf GTI.
4. Interior is second to none. You feel like a rich man sitting in there...ful.
5. Acceleration whih will scare the living daylights out of a BMW 3 series.
6. Great handling.

The deal breaker for me was the steering. It felt totally DEAD !!! Zero feedbback. I did not feel confident taking corners hard because I could not tell how much grip or what the front tyres were doing. No where near as communicative as $16,500 Mazda2 or even a 1988 Mitsubishi Magna...yes you read correctly 1988 !

If VW can sharpen the steering, this would pretty much be the perfect hatch back because it has everything else...even rear passenger room is sufficient.

I looked at the Golf TSI and Polo GTI prior as a 2nd car and ended up with a Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart for under $24k driveaway. Main reasons are value for money and reliability as i don't earn megabucks. VWs or any european are expensive to upkeep compared to other makes mainly Japanese/Korean plus their warranties aren't that great. Reliability is a known concern in european cars, so end of day it came down to those major factors for me. I would buy a Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Suzuki over a European anyday if it means i get more reliable and economical motoring over its lifetime.

Why does VWG hold back on the ultra cool Scirocco and then send us Skoda's instead???
On top of that we get new cars from them Last,after everyone else???
Whats Up With That???

It's gonna be a lot more than $30g's if international pricing is anything to go buy. Currently sold for 18,000 Pounds in brittain, and 24,000 Euro's. And that's without on-road costs or any of the options. I speculate it will be 40k optioned up and on the road.

Have grave fears this engine wont last in Australian conditions...the heat build up in a blown turbo engine combined with 50C + degree plus rOAD surface temps wont help longevity or performance, well, not in the hotter months anyway. I like it, but if it is not built in Wolsburg I will pay the extra for the Golf (which is)
