Holden ‘Dream Cruise’ to celebrate Australian manufacturing on October 15

Holden is calling on owners of all its Australian-built models to take part in its 'Dream Cruise' - scheduled for Sunday, October 15 - to celebrate local automotive manufacturing.

Announced this week, the Holden Dream Cruise is an opportunity for enthusiasts and the wider community to show off and experience the first and last cars built in Australia by Holden, led by the 1948 48/215 and 2017 VF II Commodore (pictured).

The company has put the call out for owners of its most iconic models - including the FJ, EH, HD, Kingswood, Torana, Monaro, Sandman and Commodore - to register for the event, which will include a street parade, displays, entertainment, food, and a show 'n' shine competition.

Modelled on the biennial Woodward Dream Cruise held in Detroit, the Holden Dream Cruise will start at the Elizabeth City shopping centre in Northern Adelaide, heading past Holden's vehicle operations plant on the Phillip Highway in Elizabeth, then arriving at the destination at Central District Football Club's My Money House Oval - located in Elizabeth South - where the family fun day begins.

“The Holden Dream Cruise is not just for owners of classic Holden cars made in Australia but for the wider community,” said Richard Phillips, Holden's executive director of manufacturing.

“We want to hold an event that recognises the large community of people who care about the brand, its manufacturing heritage and its future."

“This includes not only customers and enthusiasts but people for whom employment at Holden has been an important part of their family, in some cases for decades," he added.

Meanwhile, the final day of Australian manufacturing will be a far more private affair, with Phillips confirming there will be no public event when factory doors close on October 20.

"That last day is for our people," he said.
