Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 recalled for safety fix

Local importer and conversion company American Special Vehicles (ASV) has issued a recall for six vehicles across its Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 model lines over concerns a faulty occupant sensor could cause the airbags to not deploy in an accident. Affected vehicles were built in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The company reports that the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module on affected vehicles may activate a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) due to "external stimulus" that disables the ORC's ability to sense vehicle rollover events.

If the condition occurs, the loss of airbag deployment during a crash poses an increased risk of injury, even death, to the vehicle's occupants.

A VIN list for the affected vehicles can be viewed here.

Owners of the recalled Ram trucks should contact their local dealer who will inspect and reprogram the ORC module with new software.
