Toyota Tacoma added to growing recall numbers
Toyota's on-going recall woes are set to continue with approximately 8,000 vehicles likely to be added to the tally today. The news comes as Toyota announced the addition of its US-based Tacoma model to growing list.
This time round the issue relates to a potentially faulty drive shaft that, according to a Toyota spokesperson Mr Brian Lyons, could crack at the rear joint leading to a separation of the drive shaft from the vehicle without warning.
“Most of the vehicles (included in the recall) are in the pipeline in Toyota’s distribution system or on dealer lots,” said Mr Lyons.
Toyota will be issuing a voluntary recall of its new 2010 Tacoma 4WD models produced between mid-December 2009 and February 2010. Two-wheel drive (2WD) models are not affected by the recall.
The problem was uncovered during the manufacturing process which is handled by external supplier Dana, the same supplier that produced the now recalled rusty frames of the Toyota Tundra (also recently recalled).
The Toyota Tacoma is not sold in Australia.
