2010 Honda CR-V launched in Australia

By Tim Beissmann |

Honda Australia has released a refreshed version of the Honda CR-V for 2010 with updated styling, upgraded specification levels and more aggressive pricing.

With curtain airbags becoming standard on the entry-level model every car in the CR-V range is now equipped with dual front, side and curtain bags.

The ride and handling has been improved with revisions to the front suspension. Revised side mirrors and extra sound deadening around the engine bay and cabin have improved NVH levels and passenger comfort.

Visually the new CR-V gets redesigned front and rear bumpers and an evolution of the two-step grille. The interior is finished in new materials and surfaces designed to better combine its SUV and passenger car qualities.

Two accessory packages are available across the range, with the Active pack adding roof racks, side steps, cargo protector tray, deluxe mats, side window visors, door sill garnish and dust and pollen filter, chrome exhaust tip and Bluetooth, and the Modulo Sports pack including a sports grille, front and rear skid plates, side steps, tailgate spoiler, chrome exhaust tip and chrome mirror covers.

Both packages add $2699 to the total price.

The 2010 Honda CR-V range is available now in two new colours – Urban Titanium and Habenero Red – for the following manufacturer’s list prices (includes GST, excludes dealer delivery and statutory charges):

  • Standard manual – $30,990 (down $2000)
  • Standard auto – $33,290 (down $2000)
  • Sport auto – $38,790 (down $3500)
  • Luxury auto – $42,790 (down $3000)

Metallic paint is a $475 option across the range.

  • Mad Max

So where is the diesel option Honda was looking to add to the range?

  • Josh

Its like playing spot the difference especially with the exterior. Seriously I don’t think there is much of a facelift here. Jap manufacturers these days sooo lazy…

    • Yonny

… and Honda is lazier than most. Where is ESP for the Jazz/City? We’re still waiting……

  • jimmy james

Yet AGAIN, no diesel….just the same boring old engine time and time again with no power increase or torque increase…YAWN!

    • mr.trith

Premium Japanese builty quality X Trail is avail, with 2 different class leading DIEsel donks.

Take up by punters is small.

They mostly sell it with the 2.5 petrol donk, i doubt they will run with it again, cost heaps more as does the fuel and service, whats the point?

      • JEKYL & HYDE

        Mr Trith,

don’t exactly know where to get your info from.nissan deliberately don’t do a base model diesel x-trail because they were afraid it would eat into sales on their petrol model(fact).they buggered up their tow capacity of the auto diesel(1350kg) otherwise they would sell alot more(fact).there are the same(within $500) price(fact).the diesel is now the favourite with the fleet sales mob (4 resale).will they continue it??my guess is yes…

  • Myke

The Diesel CR-V is only made in the UK, our CR-Vs come from Thailand. Hopefully a diesel engine will be available on the Accord Euro…

  • trippyfoo

hmm…doesn’t seem all that different.Nice to see Honda dropping the price though..and adding the airbags as standard across the range.
but the next few months should be very interesting…
Hyundai’s upcoming ix-35 should really give the market a good shake…

  • JEKYL & HYDE

reminds me of an old marcia hines song..”too much”(price)”too little”(change)”too late”(no diesel).honda is dead in the water…

  • Gan Tan

Still looks like dog poo from the outside. One of the ugliest designs in recent memory

  • Hung Low

I dare anyone to grab the tailgate bottom ends whilst open and twist! The amount of flex is so shocking, one would think this thing was made from plastic and the hinges are about to rip off the body! Honda has been learning the perceived build quality trick from VW with the CRV! An X-Trail is a much better proposition than this!

  • Joseph

Not very impressed – where is the sat nav on the lux model -if i am going to pay close to 50k for a car i want sat-nav (especially as the lux-navi accord euro is the simmilar price)also the active pack should be standard again especially on a almost 50k car – the rav4 and forrester remain better value even with the price reduction

    • Don

Top spec CRV in Thailand comes with sat nav and rear parking camera. Honda Australia does not want to bring this top spec her because of profit. Power of Dreams???

  • Classic

    One word: vanilla.

  • PaulS

    Complaints and moans!

I think the same crowd was complaining about how pricey CRV is… now that there’s been a price drop, nobody noticed that virtue….

Look around for another Japanese Made SUV around the same price, you’ll find that CRV has the best combination of interior and exterior quality.

    • Hung Low

See my past post about build quality.
CRV is built in Thailand not Japan
The AWD system is still flawed and the engine is gutless
The interior presentation is the only decent thing about the CRV as the Japanese built X-trail or Outback is better every where else, and once the new IX35 and Sportage hit our shores the whole small soft roader market will get a shake down!

      • jojo

Yeah the on demand all wheel drive system is antiquated with a mechanical set up and drive pumps etc basically your stuck in sand or mud before it starts to rotate the rear wheels.

    • Dan T

Spoke with local dealer who said this is a middle of life-cycle effort.

It needs a diesel and a sat nav (shame Santa Fe and Sorento don’t have sat nav either).

Staying tuned for ix35… Release day is this Sunday (14/Feb) I beleive.

  • Paddy

I’ve taken the new CRV on a test drive here in New Zealand.
All i have to say is I am utterly disappointed in how little Honda has changed in the last hundred years.
The 2.4L weakling, the 5 speed crapomatic, the leather SLIDING seats.
The body roll tosses u all over the car and the car’s sound andh andling put you to sleep.
For that price I’d have 1.3 Subaru Foresters, 1.1 Mazda CX-7 or 0.9 VW Tiguans which are both better bang for buck ANYDAY.

  • Innova

I will buy the Tucson ix35 over CR-V

  • Mark G

Yawn. STILL no GPS, not even as an option. STILL no 18″ alloys available, not even as an option (they are in the UK). No increase in engine power. Still no body-coloured lower cladding (as is available in the UK). Still no diesel.

  • AAA

There’s a reason why most manufacturers keep the facelifted exterior more or less similar to the run out model. That’s to prevent the resale value from crashing.

  • Jo

No diesel option (same underpowered, thirsty, unrefined 2.4l), same old crappy ‘real time’ 4×4 system, boring exterior and overpriced even with the discount.

I’ll take a Sorento, Sante Fe, Forester or Xtrail before this piece of junk.

CRV sales have been slipping for a while. There’s a reason. Honda should exit the pretend 4×4 market…

  • GITTIT

Trying to charge jap prices for made in thailand products, no wonder they lost 21% sales last year@ what a bunch of morons!

    • Hung Low

Exactly, if Nissan can chop $1000′s of its Thai built cars i.e Maxima whilst adding more spec, what is Honda’s excuse?

  • maximark

At least the prices are now more acceptable not ridiculously overpriced like before. I bet Honda marketing people have found this website :) I think Honda build reliable vehicles though.

  • Whitbomb07

The ix35 is going to obliterate this!

    Regards

    Whitbomb07

  • Gavjon

Had one, boring to drive, boring to look. Dont know why I got one! Traded it on a 2009 Luxury Accord Euro. Again, my disappointment with Honda continued. Just got out of that and into a Audi Q5, now that was sensible!!!! Great car. Honda, if you wanna start to make decent “euro” vehicles, look to Europe, not Japan.

  • carl

Most Korean Cars are now offering 5/6-speed auto with manual shift with Diesel engine. what is the Jap thinking, still offering the 4 or 5speed auto with no manual shift in their range ?cost cutting or what? Very soon, Korean will be overtaking the Japanese.

    • Hung Low

Question is, why do you need a 6 speed auto over a 5 speed auto providing the engine has enough torque in the first place? Is 6 speed more of a marketing ploy for every day cars?

    • PaulS

I agree that Korean cars are offering more values for your money these days.

But 6 speed + manual shift for diesel engine is an overkill – it has superior low range torque and it is not built to rev.

  • mike

what a disappointment, but we all knew this was coming.

  • Nick

This car is absolutely hideous such bloated ‘styling’.

  • Baddass

That hidious grille is still there I see…

  • Don

If Honda did not jack up the price last year, I could have waited for this facelift. But it is too late now as I have switched from Honda to Subaru. I am very happy with my move as this facelift CRV still does not have six speed auto with sport shift, low combined fuel consumption (8.4litres/100 kms), and All Wheels Drive which I get from my new OUTBACK. Power of Dreams????

  • Engineer

Yes, for some reason Honda Australia assumes the Australian consumers don\’t like diesel engines because they can be far more economical and perform better than petrol engines. Let the Europeans get the best of every car. In Australia Honda is all about lack of torque, and peaky power that can never be accessed in stop go traffic…. Go Honda!

  • http://caradvice wanting to purchase 4×4

I am really surprised to read all the negative comments on the crv… thought i would log on to read about the reviews before i commit to buying the CRV.
I recently test drove the CRV, ix35 and the Jeep patriot and thought the CRV was the winner by a long shot- quality, inclusions and overall styling and finish exceed the others in my opnion not to mention the dealership service was great too.

  • Angeline

Strange about all the bashing of the CRV here, when it had great reviews in USA. Probably, the writers are CRV competitors :) I’ve driven the ix35 and I thought there were more creaks, clanks during turning, and it did not take bumps very well. The ix35 interior could be improved, tad plasticky? However, the exterior is really good, very sexy streamlined – like the Audi Q5, looks less bulky compared to CRV.

  • Ron

I just traded my 2000 HRV for a new CRV & i could’nt be happier. I’d suggest most of the negative comments here are from people who have never driven a 2010 CRV.

  • Al Juraj

The C-Pillar design is just poor, blocking more visibility than necessary. The ix35 would be a better choice in pretty much every aspect.
