2018 Audi S7 spied revealing extra details

The next-generation Audi S7 has been caught testing again, this time in southern Europe during hot weather testing.

As with an earlier prototype, this latest vehicle is comprehensively clad in camouflage, although the car's fastback shape and surfacing haven't be completely hidden away.

In this latest set of photos, we can see the design of the front fascia of the new S7 more clearly, especially the car's lower air intakes.

Out the back, the disguise has been reduced somewhat, allowing us a glimpse of the rear diffuser-style element. As with the new A8, the new S7 also features a red bar connecting the left and right tail-light units.

Under the skin, the new A7 and S7 liftbacks ride on the MLB Evo platform for cars with longitudinally mounted engines with front- and all-wheel drive setups.

Like the just revealed A8, the A7 and S7 were penned during the reign of Marc Lichte, Audi's latest design chief. Lichte has said Audis designed under his watch will have greater differentiation from each other.

When the A7 and S7 range is revealed, we'll get a true sense of how those words translate into reality.

Motivation for the new S7 is still unconfirmed. One possibility is the 324kW/550Nm 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 used in the second-generation Porsche Panamera 4S.

Another candidate is the engine from the next-generation S8. A recent report from Evo suggests the new S8 will use a version of the 404kW/770Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that debuted in the Porsche Panamera Turbo.

As a point of reference, the current S7 hatch is powered by a 331kW 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.
