There are [so far] two separate corroborating reports in the Dutch motoring media, of a meeting with high-level Hyundai administrators in Rome, both reporting the same plan. Yes there will be an i30 MPV in 2012, maybe by Dec 2011, and this is certainly it [we know what it is because it had it marked on government reg. papers on the windscreen when parked in Hyundai design HQ in Germany. I can find the photo of said papers if you really want evidence]. Yes it’s an MPV, as I reported some time ago – not a hatch or a wagon. Yes, it appears it will be based on the next generation i30. That would be logical, given the timetable for changeover of models.

If you want to call it a crossover, that’s fine, and Hyundai may well do so by then. Everything’s a crossover now

And as to Kia, see my comment above on 11 Feb.

According to a source. This will be a Nex Gen i30 MPV, and will be a 2012 MY Model. The next Gen i20 MPV will come out before this, and so far it has avoided spyshots. i20 MPV is supposed to debut this year, and hit the streets as an MY 11. I expect i20MPV to look very similar to this, and I hope it becomes an Accent 5 door too, as I have been talking to Hyundai about trying to create a 5 door Accent model.

Its due for a replacement soon enough. Current i30 is just an in between car, between the past and Next Gen i30. Its due to be replaced in 2012 anyway, and since the Elantra will be replaced a year early i30 will most likely be replaced a year early too.

OK, let’s clear up the stuff about Rondo first. The March edition of Automobile suggests that the Kia Sedona and Rondo will be replaced by the one car. However the size that’s described there [just bigger than a Ford C-max] suggests it’s actually Rondo-sized. Is the proposed car just Kia’s version of this car above? Maybe a Rondo by another name. Bear in mind that Rondo has done well in Europe and in Canada, so cutting it out completely might be a bit over the top. Kia’s previous declarations [about the Sedona or Carnival] have been that the market for large MPVs has been replaced by large SUVs. They haven’t said anything about mid or compact sized MPVs like this.

However, this car above, which has now been spotted several times over the past fortnight, is definitely a Hyundai. It even had a government registration sticker saying so in one spy pic ;D We know a lot about the Hyundai car now. Look for articles on i-Mode, i30 MPV, HED-5. This vehicle is also known as the iM30, just to confuse things further.

No they are dropping the Rondo in the US market. That’s been confirmed. The Rondo will get replaced with a Forte/Cerrato Hatch in the US.

The Design is definately Hyundai.

1. Those are Hyundai side mirrors.

2. The rear lights on KIAs are very distinctive and would show up even with camo.

3, The rear lights on Hyundais are distinctive and would show up in camo, and guess what, Those are Hyundai Rear Lights.

This is the coming Elantra hatch I hear some US Hyundai dealers talking about.

Isn’t this just the Kia Rondo? Why would they drop the Rondo [just speculation right now]if they are just renaming it as a Hyundai?

Look at KIA Soul and Honda Fit/Jazz. They never say hatch in advertising. They say “small car, small crossover, this versatile vehicle, etc….” or note that this car has 5 doors. Hatch is still kind of a dirty word here, but not as dirty as wagon or estate. However, if it has 3 doors its perfectly fine to call it a hatch for most people.

We are both right. This will be an MPV for you guys, and a hatch/small crossover for us.
