Aston Martin DB11 gets twin-turbo V8 option, Australian pricing confirmed

AMG-engined British GT to debut at Goodwood

The 2017 Aston Martin DB11 may only have just been released, but the British marque has already added a second engine choice - a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8.

Just as the smaller Vantage is offered with both V8 and V12 engines, the DB11's two-pronged attack provides a more affordable entry point into the Grand Tourer's range, and is targeted at markets where car taxation policy is structured around engine capacity, like China.

The 4.0-litre V8 is the same powerplant used in various Mercedes-AMG models, in this guise developing 375kW of power (503bhp) and 675Nm of torque - the latter coming in from 2000rpm to 5000rpm.

Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard, the DB11 V8 can sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.0 seconds flat, on its way to a top speed of 301km/h (187mph).

The V12-engined DB11 may boast meatier 447kW/700Nm outputs, but is only marginally quicker from 0-100km/h (3.9 seconds) before topping out at 322km/h.

Helping the V8 to achieve such equivalent performance is its 115-kilogram weight saving, with the kerb weight rated at 1760kg.

Visually, the DB11 V8 is distinguished from its V12 sibling by its unique alloy wheel finish, dark headlamp bezels, and two bonnet vents rather than the four on V12 versions - available in a choice of black or titanium-finish mesh.

Equipment levels otherwise mirror that of the V12 version, including the same choice of extensive colour and trim options.

Under the skin, Aston Martin has made revisions to the suspension bushing, geometry, anti-roll bars, springs, dampers and ESP software, to give the DB11 a "more sporting bias".

"To be able to offer not one, but two exceptional GT cars is terrific for Aston Martin and our customers. I’m particularly proud that this car is the first to receive an engine supplied by our technical partner, Mercedes-AMG," said Max Szwaj, chief technical officer at Aston Martin.

"Not least because thanks to the nature of our relationship with AMG we have been given complete freedom to tailor this exceptional power unit so that it meets the particular needs and demands of an Aston Martin."

The Aston Martin DB11 will make its 'dynamic debut' at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.

Australia

The V8-powered DB11 is available to order in Australia from $368,000 before on-road costs, some $27,000 less than the V12.

Deliveries are set to commence around the globe during the fourth quarter of 2017.
