2011 Holden Captiva, Opel Antara, Daewoo Winstrom spy photos

By Matt Brogan |

The triplets Opel Antara, Holden (Chevrolet) Captiva and Daewoo Winstorm are getting ready for a facelift. Earlier photos have shown the prototype with a lot of camouflage in the front so this is the first time we actually see the front almost without camouflage.

The grille has got some Infinity / Sorento influences and the bumper is newly designed  – but don’t mind the fake head lights, they are just part of the cammo. Other changes are the indicators in the side mirrors and an updated interior.

We will probably find some new or modified engines under the hood as well when it’s time for the triplets to hit the showrooms in the middle of 2010, most likely as a Model Year 2011 (MY11).

Actually there used to be a fourth brother in the family, the Saturn Vue. But since the Saturn brand has been axed by GM it might be time for the Chevrolet version to hit the US market. In the world of smaller and more fuel efficient SUVs this could very well be a big seller in the US.

The frontend looks a bit like the Santa Fe, the rest of the sheet metal looks largely unchanged

  • Byron

Great news that they did a facelift. Looks heaps good & i’m loving the front end. Back lights look less korean looking now. Yeow :D I’ve always loved the look of the Holden Captiva especially in LX model & this upgrade looks even better. I wonder what the updated interior will look like??? And if engines will be upgraded??? Can’t wait till it arrives in Australia. Captiva was No.1 SUV in January 2010. People are actually realising that it is a good car & i’ve sat in my friends one & it was better than expected. It’s going to be a big year for Holden. Bring on the 2010 Captiva Go HOLDEN!

    • Robin Graves

      Dont you mean GO DAEWOO?

      • crouchy

No becuase in this country it is a Holden.. No matter how badly you want to throw a blanket on it.

        • Whatever

Unfortunately, it comes from Korea, its built in Korea, probably designed by Koreans, maybe even perhaps an Australian designed it (if its a Holden), but all Holdens come from Korea, bar a few. Heres the list:
Barina / Kalos – Korea (Holwoo)
          Epica – Korea (Epic Fail)
          Captiva – Korea
          Cruze – Korea
2010 – 2011 Cruze hatch / sedan – Korea (designed by Oz, built in Daewoo land
          Commodore – Something Australian
          Colorano – Thailand
          Combo – Opel (Belgium Antwerp)

          Holdens 2011 – Future – Korea

The Australian car has become UnAustralian!

So thanks Crouchy, the blanket has been thrown, and your comment means nothing

          • http://holden.com.au holboy

            merce3deas is made in china

          • Mikey_94

            Hey douchebag,

            1. the Cruze will be manufactured in Australia from 2011 in sedan and hatch
            2. Commodore is all Aussie and proud to be
            3. Every crappy Toyota and every other car come from places like Thailand, Korea, South Africa, Japan etc. and they are all generally good quality (bar a few) so don’t make out like anything imported is crap
            4. You’re a tool, stop dissing the Aussie manufacturers like Holden and Ford who do a great job

        • george

You say all Holdens bar a few a then give a list where half of them are not from Korea your comments make me laugh..
As for the 2011 Cruze Hatch and Sedan they are going to be made in Adelaide last time I checked that was in Australia not Korea.
I know quite a few people with Captiva’s a couple of them had some problems, most of them However have not had any problems at all.
I put them on the spot and asked them what they thought of their cars and did they buy it just because it was a Holden.. All of them said to me including the one’s with problems that they love their cars and were glad they bought it.
Only one bought their car because of the Holden badge on it (although his wife did pick the car), a couple said they looked at them because they were a Holden.
The big reason why bought it was because they liked it better then the other cars they had test driven.

  • Baddass

New front end looks nicely sharp and taut, while the new rear tail lights are nice as well. But the person in charge of disguising this car should be sacked. We can see all the changes!

  • Camry lover

With regards to the interior, will GM Daewoo remove the large storage compartment in between the two central HVAC vents?

Without a navigation unit in place, I am of the opinion that this storage compartment makes for an interior absent of elegant styling.

  • Robin Graves

This is like giving plastic surgery to someone with cancer. They need to concentrate on fixing the reliability and quality gripes first. Facelift or not its still a Daewoo Craptiva.

    • Whatever

      too shay

  • Callous Aussie

I would be very ,very surprised if this vehicle isn’t a significant leap ahead of the current one. Even the obvious anti-Holden club in here must realise that Holden and GM as a group are moving fwd with their Korean products.

No they are not out of Europe, but neither are their prices. Robin you need to get over yourself. This company is owned by GM. Not Daewoo. There will be a lot of decent vehicles coming out of there over the next decade. Get used to it. The Cruze is exceptional value and a sound vehicle. It may not match the Opel Astra equivalent but is also considerably cheaper and for “most” average punters it is a good car for the dough.

I am a little surprised at the rear’s similarities to the current one, but then its styling isn’t offensive to begin with. I don’t see a Santefe in the front either like someone commented above. If anything it looks a little like the Lancer. That’s not a criticism either.

    • poohbear

You have to wonder who Robyn is trying to convince with her constant, repetitive and outright boring Holden sledging. Not sure anybody really reads her posts anymore, after all what would be the point?

      • Robin Graves

I’m a bloke poohbear – Robin can be a blokes name too. Whats wrong with criticising a cosmetic upgrade when clearly there is fundamental engineering issues with the bits under the skin? GM dont give a rats about reliability – its all about being showy, propaganda and sentimentality. Use your head not your heart, Craptiva is a lemon.

        • COUGS

so thats why they are selling so many then ????? mmmmmmm funny that.. carnt be the highest seller in january if they are no good….

          • Robin Graves

Pussycat Dolls and Britney Spears at one stage sold the most records, but does that make them a quality product? No! its just the sheep mentality of people following the flock.

          • Kenny

They sold a lot of units in January was because they discounted a lot & advertised the fact they were discounting.

      • Callous Aussie

Yeah he’s a bloke. He just doesn’t behave like one. You’re spot on Poobear. Anything without a Ford badge cops a caning from ignorant little Robin. You come to expect nothing less.

        • crouchy

Perhaps this is the Britney Spears of the motoring world. The reason Britney Spears sells so many CDs is that she appeals to a broad audience and is a wonderful marketing tool which her record company milks to perfection.

Making money is their business, and so is Holden’s. Selling CDs and selling cars is no different. If you dont sell them, you dont make any money.

          • Robin Graves

Thing is, as a consumer I expect my investment to have more appeal than 5 minutes.

        • Robin Graves

You think I’m ignorant? I’m not the one who will blindy back anything with a Holden badge on it. I’m by no means a Ford fan, I just call it as I see it – not blinded by badge loyalty or ingrained ignorance from birth like a lot of Holden fans. I’m guessing a perceived ‘behaving like a bloke’ from a Holden fan means drinking bad beer, wearing a wife-beater singlet and driving a Holden V8, defending Holden to death no matter what crap they pump out. Sorry mate I dont fit your stereotype.

  • Lynchy

I have to agree with Robin on this, the quality issues have been a major problem for the Captiva, I think Today Tonight or A Current Affair actually ran a story not long ago, due to how many quality issues the cars have had.

Selling lots of a model doesn’t make it a good car either, Australians in general tend to be driven by the dollar first and quality second, something that I’m shore a lot of people regret after they get a lemon. That said if you own a Captiva and your happy with it that’s really all that matters.

    • Callous Aussie

Only when the penny drops will you realise those shows are as credible as Saddam Hussein and he’s dead. I know a Captiva owner and they love it and have had no problems with it at all. I know a territory owner who has had a major brake issue ( a massive recall) and rust in the tail gate (ford said bad luck) .Both were common to the early build cars. He paid a heap for it too. So that’s your arguement ruined.

You also really believe Australians are dictated by the dollar when buying cars? If that were the case why is toyota number one? They are the most overpriced vehicles in Australia for what you actually get.

Why aren’t Proton number one with the cheapest car available? Or Suzuki? Your arguement is baseless and is often thrown up as a defence against the fact people buy cars that they like. Austrlia’s personal debt level is proof enough of this.

Manufacturers usually iron the bugs out of their cars as they go and by the time series 2 arrives they have it down pat. Thia car will be a good reliable vehicle. Just like gen 2 ford territory is.

  • rentakeyboard

When are you people going to admit that the apart from Barina and Epica (replacements due this year) these Daewoo Holdens are all international designs and are simple built by Daewoo?

Just like yr BMW 7 Series and yr Hilux are built in Thailand.

Dont forget the ball joint replacements (75,000Ks) that are plaguing Territory.

Toyotas international recall is now 8.1 million vehicles! so get off yr high horse.

  • rentakeyboard

drive.com is nw reporting the recall will now include brake problems with Prius.

Japanese traffic authority is in the middle of this one.

    The numbers keep adding up.

Australia might be in the middle of the recall problems yet.

  • Shak

When will people get over the fact that Holden import korean cars. BMW, Audi and mercedes benz all make cars in China so does that make them Chinese. If you all had any knowledge, you would know that South korea is as technologically advanced as Japan, and that their recent automobiles are very good. No car maker makes all of their cars in their home country. No large one that is.

  • ifyouseekamy

    Yep, I agree with

Britney spears appeals more to me than you Robin

    FYI

  • jpo

Anyone who denies the fact that people blindly buy this vehicles is kidding themselves….. before telling a captiva owner that their vehicle is made in japan ask them if they would ever buy a kia, hyundai or daewoo when they were still here. The answer i have found the majority of time is a flat no for the reason of poor reputation….. same as holden has the repuation of the australia car company, hence why they purchased the vehicle!

I would like to think consumers are more educated than that with such a big purchase, but unfortunately (atleast around here) they aren’t….. the thing you need to remind yourself is that most individuals aren’t as passionate about vehicles as us, hence dont care until something goes wrong

    • Shak

But they have shaken off their old reputation. If you are stupid enough to buy a car based on reputation(toyota), then you deserve a sub standard car. Go out into the world and see whats on offer. If you dont like a car dont buy it.

      • filippo

I think jpo’s comment is valid. I was surprised a month ago when talking cars with my aunt who assumed that all Holdens are made in Australia. Most if not all people who post on this site would know that this is not the case, but the general public do very little research when buying a car.

When my brother-in-law was thinking about buying a Captiva (he was amazed at how cheap they are) I asked him two questions: 1) Would you buy it if it had a Daewoo badge? and… 2) Would you buy it if it had a Kia badge? The answer to both questions was a resounding “no”, so to me it showed how important the badge is. I remember many people buying the Korean/Kia built Ford Festiva on the same premise. It’s a shame really, as the Sorento and Santa Fe are far superior cars to the Captiva, yet people would rather buy something that ‘appears’ to be Australian.

  • Jake02

The rear-end is not a facelift, the rear-end is from the Asian-market Captivas (the tailamps especially). I’ve always liked the Captive, it’s great value and it looks good too. But a friend’s Captiva MaXX broke down so many times he sold it, so that’s defs a weakness. Other than that, it’s a car that has got many strong points about it.

    • toxic_horse

Yep same, cheap plastic looking rear end with rediculous twin exhaust that is to close together and makes the whole car look top heavy.

  • http://Caradive jordan

wow thats nice…..i hope the inside is just as nice.

  • dave

I look forward to the new model. I dont really like SUV’s, but I think the Capytiva looks much better than some of the awkward designs by its competitors. X trail, CRV Santa Fe all good examples of ugly SUV’s- just glad the Captiva is not one of them.

  • Gazza

Hey. Own a 2007 diesel LX now with 48000ks on the clock.Very happy with the car when we first picked it up and it has proven to be a fine, reliable, economical, comfortable car. Yes it’s fairly low ks for its age mainly because it’s a city commuter. Just replaced the 4 tyres at $420 each. Ouch! There is no rust at all anywere (hello ford) mechanic says breaks are only 50% used, no rattles or squeaks, fit and finish still like new. I would say it has great build quality and I will buy another when I’m ready to replace it. Cheers Gazza

  • madeholly1

For the money drove the captiva lx with sunroof leather touchscreen sat nav sidesteps and diesel for $42500da +more fruit and considering im looking at dualis+2 ix35 and asx think the holden daewoo is a pretty gd buy considering daewoo hasnt had any korean airlines planes fall from the sky in recent times…unless they were shot down from the north:)

    • ducko

i bought one too and it now has 80,000ks on it and the only problems ive had was 1 the battery in the key had to be replaced and 2 my left front blinker stoped blinking..
the latter had to have the bulb holder replaced but it cost me nothing….

when i bought mine i was fully aware of it being built in Korea and looked at the territory also..(and im a ford man)
but the captiva was the best value and its also the only SUV soft roader that can seat two adults in the very rear.

the only things i dont like about it is the fuel economy, the lack of space when the back seats are in use and people bagging me for buying a daewoo..

would i buy another captiva……you betchya

  • madeholly1

Any news on release date or time frame anybody????

  • Jarrod

If you take a dump and paint it yellow. Its still a dump…only yellow. Thats a daewoo. Which is why Holden have such an extensive range. Also explains way the “new look barina” has a 2 star crash rating

    • Dave

It has been 4 stars for quite a while now – keep up.

  • http://intertopic.com/ wizard

    you’re not too specific article..
