Toyota sales rise again in January

Toyota Australia's January sales were up 8.5 per cent compared with the same month last year, according to official figures released today. The figures show Toyota sold a total of 14,500 vehicles for the month, almost 39 per cent more than any other brand. The figure places Toyota some 4,000 units ahead of its nearest rival.

In January, Camry, HiLux 4x4, HiLux 4x2, LandCruiser 200 Series, HiAce van and HiAce bus were the top-selling Toyota vehicles in their respective segments. Prius was the best-selling hybrid vehicle.

Toyota Australia senior executive director sales and marketing, Mr David Buttner, said the company and its dealers were positive about the outlook for 2010.

"Our order bank is strong - and growing - and our dealer confidence is high," said Mr Buttner.

"We are also on the verge of launching one of the most significant cars in Australia's automotive history - the first locally produced hybrid car, Hybrid Camry."

Toyota has topped the sales charts every single month since April 2005.
