2018 BMW M5 revealed in Need for Speed game front cover

The 2018 BMW M5 has inadvertently been revealed by the creators of the video game Need for Speed, as part of an email promotion for the upcoming game.

Need for Speed Payback isn't due for release until November, but a teaser email sent out to fans of the game has accidentally revealed the front-end design of the all-new BMW M5, which is yet to be released.

A close-up look at the front reveals a rather sedate styling change for the twin-turbocharged V8 M5, with open air gates in the lower corners for airflow, and a broad central grille.

We know that the next-generation BMW M5 will sport a quasi drift mode, activated by disabling the front axle via iDrive, and that it will pump out more than 450kW of power (or 603hp) from its twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine.

The M5 will be BMW's first non-SUV M vehicle to sport an all-wheel drive system, which BMW dubs xDrive.

If the new Mercedes-AMG E63 S is anything to go by, it'll sprint from 0-100km/h in around 3.3 seconds, making it the fastest BMW M car available.

Expected to cost more than the current BMW M5, the availability of all-wheel drive and a host of technology advancements should make this an extremely desirable sports tourer.

What do you think of the M5 front-end design?

Thanks to Will Varvari for spotting these and sending them through!
