The Stig caught on Google’s Streetview

By Karl Peskett |

Some say he’s just a figment of our imagination, and that he’s just Michael Schumacher dressed up a bit, but Google’s Streetview camera cars have snapped a pic of the tame racing driver himself.

It just so happens that it’s a picture of offices in Hammersmith, England, taken from the A40, and if you zoom in enough, a figure in the office window bears a striking similarity to the famed professional driver from the hit TV programme Top Gear. It shouldn’t really be a surprise though – these are the BBC offices after all.

If you really want to impress your friends, click here to check it out  – just say you stumbled across it.

It’ll be our little secret.

    One word, “plant”

All set up by BBC & Google to promote each other.

How is Ben Collins these days?

    Cheers

He has been spotted in a few place, kind of like “Where in the world is The Stig?”

  • http://www.ausmotive.com Liam

That office spotting first came to light almost 12 months ago now. But, he/it has just been spotted on the shores of Loch Ness.

Some say his best friend is “Nessie” ;)

this was found in march last year! slow news day?

    • Marc

Heh. Probably. But how many places is he actually found on street view?

  • Alex

How come those google images are so clear? The Aus Street View is so blury you can’t make our a person standing 10 feet away. I smell a rat…

What would be more impressive is Street View of Ben Collins house :)

    • Minnow

Google street view uses face recognition to blotch out anything that looks like two eyes and a mouth so thats why you cant see faces.

  • Captain Nemo

Its probably just a shop dummy dressed up as the Stig and the BBC move it around a bit in front of the windows.
All for a bit of free publicity for Top Gear

  • Baddass

“bears a striking similarity to the famed professional driver from the hit TV programme Top Gear”.
Haha, so it could be a pure conincidence that someone was wearing a Stig suit in the BBC office? And it isn’t the real Stig? CA, you crack me up.

They are just so life like from a distance those card board cut outs. lol

  • Numb1er

I have a great idea for BBC. I used to have those Wheres Wally books as a kid. They should do a book that features all of the greatest car shows and tracks in the world and they should call it Where’s Stig. They should also create a bad stig also like Waldrow from where’s wally. Also they should add in there all the hosts from top gear, although I cant see people missing Jeremy Clarkson’s head anytime soon

    • arlester

They have already made a ‘Where’s Stig’ book.

Good idea though just a few months late

  • Joe

Some say.. that he can stand in front of the window for hours. And that he wears helmet all the time while in the office. Al we know he’s name’s the Stig!
