Our spy photographers have today snapped these images of Peugeot’s upcoming 508 model.

According to the French manufacturer the 508 is set to replace both the 407 and 607 models when it takes to the road in early 2011, and as the car’s name suggests, in terms of size it will sit between the models it replaces. The last model of its kind was the 505 back in 1979.

The new 508 will also carry a hybrid version and will also form the base for Peugeot’s next crossover vehicle (SUV).

The current plan is for a 508 concept car to be unveiled at the Paris this year, before the production version is launched at the Geneva motor show in 2011.

All well and good but since it replaces the 607, what will happen to its beautiful sister, the Citroen C6? I do hope it lives on.
