Shelby American marks 45th anniversary with new GT350 Mustang

By Matt Brogan |

Shelby American is commemorating the 45th anniversary of the legendary Shelby GT350 Mustang with a new version, designed around Ford’s new 5.0-litre V8 (to be featured in the upcoming 2011 Mustang range).

For the cost of a new Mustang – plus an additional US$33,995 – the team at Shelby American will deliver you a modernised GT350 featuring the trademark white paint and blue racing stripes. The new GT350 also includes exclusive badging, revised front and rear fascias, plus functional hood and rocker panel scoops.

Under the bonnet the GT350 develops 373kW thanks to the new supercharged 5.0-litre and is mated exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Ford Racing parts catalog also provides springs, struts, sway bars and caster/camber plates to upgrade the suspension. Shelby American also fits the car with Baer brakes for greater stopping power, and the Goodyear tyres roll on 19-inch Cragar wheels.

Inside the driver’s A-pillar gains gauges for fuel pressure, oil pressure and boost.

Ford begins building the 2011 Mustang in the northern Spring. American customers can have their car drop-shipped from the factory to the Las Vegas facility for upfitting.

    I prefer the original

    I like the original + an RB26

Bye, bye HSV. That engine will look great in the new GT Falcon.

Finally someone has come up with an A pillar blindspot to rival the VE Commodore – TACKY after thought on an otherwise great car.
But it is a lot extra money for a parts-bin special.

Looks like someone’s been visiting SuperCheap Auto for that instrument cluster…

What a muscle car! It looks massive next to the original though! I would have preferred the GT500 to have this engine, and the GT350 to have a detuned version. Although, now that I think about it, the GT500 will probably have power up in the 400KW range.

Looks too plastic – body kit is over kill, A-piller guages look tacky and stupid! Doesn’t look like a car that Carroll Shelby had too much input on.

Nostalgia’s not what it used to be.

Like most of the comments. we don’t have the Falcon here in the States yet but I think we should. About the GT 500 I believe it has a much larger engine (forget the size 6.0 L maybe) any how bigger. I saw a FALCON here years ago it had a 200 cu. in. in-line 6, with a 1 bbl carb and 3 on the tree trans.and4 doors about the same year as that original gt 350 guess things change for the better sometimes.
