Holden Commodore: Customers to choose final build numbers

An email from a dealer to a customer and seen by CarAdvice, shows that from May 3, 2017, customers will have the ability to log into an online system hosted by Holden to choose a build number on a first come, first serve basis.

That means customers could instantly increase the value of their purchase by snagging elusive build numbers like 0001, 0005, 0888, or combinations of final build numbers depending on model.

The process begins on April 10 where all eligible customers will receive a test email from Holden to ensure they have the correct email and the process begins without a hitch.

From there, a week before May 3, customers will be able to access a landing page that is accessed via a username and password sent to their registered email address.

Then, from 12PM on May 3, customers will be able to log in to the landing page and select a build number from 1-1200 for Motorsport orders, 1-360 for Director orders and 1-240 for Magnum orders.

Given the process works on a first-come, first-served basis, any unallocated numbers will remain available until 12PM on May 10. After that time unallocated numbers will be randomly allocated to owners and they will receive email notification on May 16 with their designated build number.

CarAdvice is unaware of any other manufacturer that has offered customers an online system similar to this for special edition vehicle builds. It's certainly a nice way of signing off the end of local manufacturing for customers invested in final special editions.
