World Time Attack Challenge 2010 comes to Eastern Creek

In 2008, the first Time Attack event was held in Australia, and now the fast-paced aftermarket action is set to make its return in May 2010 with some big international competitors already booked.

The event will be held at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney over two days, showcasing a mix of the world's fastest time attack cars, drifters and the obligatory 'show and shine'.

Among the field of competitors is the Cyber Evo TA which is currently Japan's fastest Evolution Lancer with more than 522kW at the wheels in a body weighing just 1060kg.

Its traditional rival is well represented in the Tomei/Cusco TA WRX which set a lap time of 0:56.66 at the Tsukuba Circuit last month, just two seconds behind the pace of the Cyber Evo.

The World Time Attack event is all about high horsepower screaming around a racetrack, with all the cult favourites such as GTRs, WRXs, Evos and RX7s lapping close to V8 Supercar times on semi-slick tyres.

The event is expected to host up to 80 time attack cars across three classes ranging from Pro Class, with overseas competitors, to Club Sprint Class featuring local road-registered cars.

The 2010 World Time Attack Challenge will be held at Eastern Creek International Raceway from May 21-22
