Jeep to use Fiat C-EVO platform for new models

Chrysler-Fiat is planning to build a new assembly line in the US for the highly versatile C-EVO platform, which can be produced in two different lengths and is capable of housing a four-wheel drive system.

The platform is already used for numerous European models including the Fiat Bravo (Ritmo) and Alfa Romeo’s Milano and new Giulietta hatch.

Jeep plans to use it for fuel efficient entry-level models as well as the rugged four-wheel drives that have become synonymous with the brand.

Given that the Compass and Patriot twins will be discontinued by the end of 2012, the adoption of the Fiat platform should give the American brand’s range a much needed boost.

Jeep also used the North American International Auto Show in Detroit to add three special edition models to its range.

The Liberty Renegade, Wrangler Islander and Wrangler Mountain all gain bigger alloys and greater personalisation features, including exterior graphics packages, restyled side steps and rail guards, new paint colours and interior revisions.

The three limited editions will be available in the US only.
