David that applies to every car unfortunately… the Commodore is the greatest example, somehow its cheaper overseas and more expensive here, despite the greater cost of transportation. It has abit to do with tax I think, due to luxury car tax the added cost that has added to some of these vehicles, manufacturers milk the whole luxury thing and ask a greater premium for the vehicles.

What I don’t understand is that in the US, the LS460 sells for $61,500 USD. At today’s currency rate that converts to $66,850 AUD. Then add duty etc.
For example, Customs Duty = 10% of $66,850
GST = 10% of $66,850
Luxury Car Tax LCT = 25/100 x 10/11 x (66850-57009) = $2236

Therefore, Duty + GST + LCT = $15606

So landed cost assuming no margin for the reseller is $66,850 + $15,606 = $82,456

However the actual figure is likely to be some 30-40% less than this for the resellers margin.

So the Lexas LS460 costs no more than $82,456, yet sells for $187,000? What a rip off!

Where are the bogans who would say that a HSV Grange can match this??
