If you thought the Toyota FT-86 G Sports Concept we showed you last week from the Tokyo Auto Salon was impressive, prepare to be blown away.

Introducing the Prius G Sports Concept – the latest attempt by Toyota to shake the appliance image.

Bringing the conversion and tuning accessories market in-house, Toyota says the G Sports series is “designed for customers who strongly desire to own a unique vehicle, offering them a personalised interior and exterior design along with sports-driving performance”.

The drivetrain of the Prius G Sports is unchanged, but the suspension is 30mm lower and the racy hybrid is pulled up quicker by bigger brakes.

The new aero tweaks include enormous revisions to the front and rear bumpers, rear wheel covers, rear spoiler, carbon fibre mirrors, sideskirts, underbody work and a twin sports exhaust system.

Daytime running LEDs and beefier alloys top off the changes outside, while inside the Prius scores a new dashboard, Recaro seats, leather steering wheel, aluminium pedals and G Sports badging on the gear stick and star button.

G Sports sales will begin out of Toyota dealers in Japan from later this year.

When i first saw the title i thought it said G-spot but then realised it also said Toyota so i knew it couldnt be true. But they have done some nice work, although it does look uglier.

    I think I’m going to be sick……

So if anyone slaps together a body kit, fits bigger brakes and lowers their car it can be considered a ‘Sports’ version?

This is as good as the boy racers who hot up their Mirages……… (note: sarcasm)

    Regards

I doubt this would be quicker than a XR6 or HSV

Rear wheel covers??? they looked terrible on 80s concepts cars, and they look even worse now. I’d rather “suffer” with the slight increase in air resistance to keep my dignity thank you.

A bit pointless I think. Wasn’t it M3 which was more economical at the track in one of the top gear episodes?

I have a feeling it was an Audi R8
Either way this thing is a bit silly. How is it a sports car when the engine is still pretty “soft”?

Actually it was the 4 door M3. The task was basically drive the prius around the Top Gear test track flat out, and let the BMW M3 follow at pace of the prius.

        The prius ended up spending 17 L/100 km’s, and the M3 achieved 15 L/100 km’s

OH For the Love of Japan… And I thought the Prius couldn’t get any worse, or uglier for that matter. But oh well the idiot working at Toyota had to prove us all wrong once again.

I mean seriously, the 1950′s and 60′s Citroen style rear wheel arch, what makes them think that its going to make the car any cooler/better looking.

The whole front bumper, with the ugly indicators/refletors, air intake, and owww it has Daytime running LED’s that makes alot more people want to buy it now. lol

The last half decent or decent Sporty Toyota was The Supra and that was built over 12 years ago.

So what makes Toyota think that they are Fit to play Ball in the sports car category after being out of it for more than 12 Years.

the last celica looked OK to me. I never looked at it seriously so I dont know how it went, but I’d read the yamaha engine was pretty sweet, dont know how it handled though. There was also the paseo, a real performance machine (har har har….har har har….haaaar haaaar haaaaaaar….)

this makes about as much sense as a sports car as the $750,000 asking price of the LFA does as a good buying priced car…..

    sports…ha…please…

fair dinkum, my Roomba vac looks more sporty than that. Probably goes longer on a charge as well, and I’m sure it’s behaviour in corners is less erratic!
