Ford Ranger T6 Interior Spy Photos

By Paul Maric |

Pavle.com.au spy photographers have been busy this month. In addition to the FPV Coyote V8 and Territory Diesel scoops, the snap happy spies have captured exclusive interior photographs of the Aussie developed Ford Ranger T6 mules.

First spied back in May, 2009, the next generation Ford Ranger (dubbed the T6) is expected to be ready for the 2012 model year.

Ford Australia is engineering the T6 Ranger with a 2.0-litre variant of the EcoBoost I4 four-cylinder engine. Predicted to produce around 170kW and 325Nm of torque, the engine will provide plenty of torque for the Ranger’s main applications.

In addition to the petrol EcoBoost engine, Ford will retain the 3.0-litre Durtorq 3.0-litre TDCi engine currently in use. The EcoBoost engine will feature Ford’s dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission, in addition to a six-speed manual option.

From the photos, it’s quite clear this mule is still in the early stages of development. The interior fittings suggest new switchgear and centre console for the Ranger, giving it a more upmarket feel from the current offering.

The dark coloured Ranger test mules are fitted with the EcoBoost engine, while the white coloured Ranger test mules are fitted with the Duratorq diesel engine.

Cleverly disguised as Mazdas, the entire fleet of Ranger T6 test mules features Mazda BT50 headlights and body features in an attempt to keep interest at bay.

CarAdvice will keep you posted as more information comes to hand.

Not really much of a scoop. I can’t make out anything under the Mazda diguise.

  • Falcodore

I see they’ve moved the headlight switch to the dash. I wonder if they’re going to put a cruise control stalk on the other side of the steering column?

They are not that cleverly disgiused with all the black tape and the big sticker on the one in the 4th pic down. Also the 3rd and last photos aren’t showing up, is anyone else having that problem?

  • t39

3rd and last photoes are not showing up for me too.

  • o

this thing has been in development longer than the volt

    • Hendrik

Needs to beat the Hilux… thats an everest in its own admission

      • Andrew M

The current Ranger, BT50 and Navara usually do beat the Lux in comparos…..

The sales board is a different story

  • Steve

It’s about 5 years too late, will be an anti-climax when it arrives….
Toyota will have a new Hi-lux out which will make this obselete very quickly

    • Andrew M

You dont think Toyota make cars overnight do you??

For Toyota to have a new Lux in 2012, it too would have to be under development right now………
Hilux has been behind the 8 ball for many years as it is

    • t

if toyotas recent efforts are anything to go by, the next hilux will be HIDEOUS.

landcrusier, klooooooooooogah, rav….. all much uglier than the last models.

  • Andrew M

lets hope its a takes on a lot of the Falcons traits

  • David

I don’t know why they bothered trying to disguise it.. No one cares about another “work-horse”, and this is another case of same-old for most people. The overnight news coming from OS that Ford in Australia is likely to be coming to an end is far more exciting news, and something which will surely develop as the day goes on.
Why is it that Ford always tried their best to self-destruct, whereas Holden get brilliant coverage and exposure if they simply think of a new car, or develop a concept car that they have no interest in making, but love the limelight!!

So does this mean Australia will finally get the larger, Ford built US version of the Ranger or is this just Ford US using Ford Australia’s engineering expertise? I am asking this because at present the Ranger we get at the moment is the smaller Mazda sourced version that is used in the Asian market etc.

The BT50/Ranger and Courier/B-series arrangement used to be Ford designed and built a larger version for both companies in the large US market whilst Mazda designed/built a smaller version for both companies for Asian/European/African markets. Whilst the cars shared design cues, they were different in that the Ford US version was larger than the Mazda version with the obvious engineering differences that is involved.

    • Falcodore

All the development work for the T6 is been done by Ford Oz and it will be shared with Mazda. Apparently the only market not getting this vehicle is the NA market (US, Canada, Mexico).

      • Devil’s Advocate

Thanks for that. It was a little confusing considering this one looks more like the larger US version and the LHD didn’t help either!

        • Falcodore

There has been speculation that this ute could be used to resurrect the F100 nameplate in the US but the F150 is considered light duty over there. Also the US market Ranger is about 30yrs old and is soon to be discontinued because of poor sales.

          • Darrell

if you read pickuptrucks.com you will find the us ranger is the best selling compact pickup in na. it out sold many cars last month and ford is using poor sales as an excuse to cancel it

  • Robert

The engine output for the Ecoboost sounds absolutely gutless for use in a Pickup. Sounds like an engine option few tradies will go for. 227hp and 239lbs ft of torque??? They must be joking.
This Ute is not destined for the US. Instead a Ecoboost version of the F150 will basically replace the US Ranger. There are a two engines a 3.7 Litre non turbo engine and a 3.5 Litre Turboboost, to haul around a 5000lb vehicle. Again not very impressive. The US Ranger has considerably less capacitiies than the current Thai built Ranger, principally not having the load or towing capacity of the 3 Litre diesel.

None of the typical jap utes have impressive power or torque figures.
These figures seem to be in line with its competitors.

The Jap utes make up for it by cramming the gears closer in the low range.

They rely on the gearing to pull it off the line, not so much the torque

    Guy\’s,

I have had 30 years of putting up with underpowered jap crap.

All I ever wanted was a diesel 4wd 1 tonne falcon ute.

Ford you buggered up 20 years ago and there\’s no going back!

    RIP,

    Stephen

At least the handbrake is in the right place.
