2017 Hyundai Santa Fe V6 set to make a permanent return

Hyundai Australia says the success of its limited edition Hyundai Santa Fe 30 Special Edition means it's slated for a permanent return to the Santa Fe range.

Speaking to media at the launch of the 2017 Hyundai i30, Hyundai Australia chief operating officer, Scott Grant, said the success of a petrol V6 in Santa Fe shows that buyers enjoyed the power on tap from the naturally aspirated V6.

"A sporty version is an opportunity for us. We've had some special editions in recent times. The V6 Santa Fe was surprisingly successful for us. The SR, which has a different wheel and brake package has also been quite successful," Grant said.

"We are thinking about it now, we have availability for V6 engines to supply into it [Santa Fe] and we're going to do it again to see how they go."

Powered by a 3.3-litre naturally aspirated V6 engine, the Santa Fe 30 Special Edition produces 199kW of power and 318Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

While fuel use is 9.6L/100km, which is much higher than the four-cylinder diesel Santa Fe, Grant said buyers enjoyed having the extra power to play with. All 300 of the limited edition specials sold out with buyers wanting more.

Hyundai expects the V6 to be reinserted into the Santa Fe range in the coming months, with V6 stock readily available to the company. Towing is rated at 2000kg braked, which is on par with the diesel that offers 122Nm of torque more than the petrol.
