Volkswagen Karmann Ghia on stilts!

We’ve come to know the Volkswagen Baja Bug as a Beetle that’s been modified to go off-road - but what about a VW Karmann Ghia that’s been given the same treatment?

This 1964 model was recently on offer through Ebay and was modified in the late 1970s for some seriously fast off-road racing that competed in 1979 and 1981’s Baja 1000.

Nothing much has changed to the car since then, keeping its original racing roll cage, steering, brakes, tube sub frames, suspension and those crazy oversized tyres.

Its original 1200cc engine was recently upgraded to a more powerful 1600cc dual port engine, and has had a long list of fresh items replaced, such as seats, harnesses, and a fresh bright orange respray, which screams 1970s.

It has won many awards and its owner even drove it as a daily for ‘car week’.

Can you imagine popping into the supermarket to get your eggs in this?
